Hi everyone,
I hope to get a bit of insight in US customs practices since I've sold and sent to a fellow member a rare copy of Aliens on the 31st of January and there apparently is still no sign of it.

I was told that customs can sometimes be the cause of lenghty delays but I'm getting a bit worried now. soblue

Do you guys know if there are reasons for concern? For those of you who have received parcels from Europe, have you ever had such long delivery delays?

I've had very inconsistent experiences both sending to and receiving from Europe.

In some instances, shipping has been very quick. In other situations I've had to wait weeks (six weeks may have been the longest).

I, for one, welcome your mouse pointer.

I've had to wait for two months one time. Unfortunately, the shipper sent out a second copy.

I've had the same experience a couple of times with games/DVDs.

Wow, up to two months!? How's your economy coping with that? Puzzling.

Guess I should just be patient and hope it will all be ok in the end. It's the most expensive item I've sent in many years and I'd be gutted to have to refund the buyer

When I asked about oversea shipping and customs, I was told they could take up to 30 days to process sounds like it could be even longer at times.

Its a very expensive item and you didnt bother to get tracking on it? Tracking protects you the seller as much as it does the buyer.

Tracking might be built-in; when you ship abroad from the US, the customs declaration form has a reference number that also serves as a tracking number.

Uh. "Didn't bother"? Kind choice of word without knowing the situation.

I wish that would have been possible. The game was sold at auction with free postage (i.e. paid by me, at normal international rate). I would have thought the likelihood of losing a parcel very low and so was prepared to reimburse the buyer in any case. For your information, tracking this parcel (with RoyalMail globalexpress, my only option then) would have cost a staggering £52 (that's $82!). I somewhat envy you if you have much cheaper full-tracked rates for shipping parcel overseas.

My fault, the tone I was conveying was puzzlement (hence the 'What' smiley) not condescending.

Would insurance have been outrageous as well?

Re: US customs - shipping delay for parcels from overseas?
No worries Spartan.

Basically, it seems I had a choice between the standard 'airmail small parcels' fare at £12 ($19), an almost-pointless tracked method that only tracks up to the point it leaves the UK (and that was about £20 IIRC, $31) and the fully tracked RM Parcelforce 'global priority/express' I mentioned above.

Even the standard $19 rate does come with some kind of insurance though, with compensation up to £42 ($66 - if one is lucky to get it apparently as RM is sometimes reluctant to hand it over, or so I've read).

Still hoping everything is fine since several of the replies above mention that a 4weeks+ wait isn't uncommon.
