Who is interested in swapping beer at the con? Not every beer gets distributed into or out of Texas (discussion of which should be done in RSP).

There are a bunch of breweries around Austin. A short list would be:

Jester King Craft Brewery
512 Brewing Company
Live Oak Brewing Company
Independence Brewery
Circle Brewing Company
Thirsty Planet Brewing Company
Hops and Grain
Austin Beerworks
South Austin Brewing Company
Adelbert's Brewery
Rogness Brewing Company
Twisted X Brewing Company

I will be bringing up a selection of Jester King beers and others.

I created a geek list to trade beer. Do you think that something like that would work? People could create entries of beers they like and work out details with others.

I had not supposed or expected your arrogant spirit to seek such a ridiculous and childish reason for lying; you should have better reasons.

I would be happy to bring a selection of Wisconsin's finest and share them with you.

Interesting notion!

We could also add Ranger Creek to the list, and various varieties of Shiner that often don't make it out of the state.

I have access to Free State, Boulevard Brewery (for what doesn't get exported), and Tallgrass. Free State does packaged beer as well as growlers from the tap.

We were already planning on bringing copious amounts of New Belgium Beers to use as ice-breakers! Count me in! I'll make sure we bring some special bombers as well.

I think this is a capital idea and was contemplating doing something as well. I will throw my hat in the ring with your efforts. Here are a few words of guidance though:

(1) This must be UNOFFICIAL and low key. The BGG.CON team would probably get in trouble if there was a high profile alcohol trade going on. I really recommend a high level of discretion around this.

(2) This is the first year that the CON is at the new hotel so I suspect the sensitivity for the above point is even higher.

(3) Cindy Nowak "ScoutMom" does this for the Gaming Hoopla so she may be a good resource to model a trade after. Here is a thread she started for the Hoopla Trade.
http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/782182/the-totall-unofficall...

(4) I think there is a large interest in this. This may get quite large and successful in a hurry. Be prepared for lots of interest.

I look forward to trading beers with folks. I should be able to get some of my Canadian favourites to bring, but I will be limited with how much I can bring as I will be flying.

Cheers,
Matt

We have a growing craft, micro and home brew crowd here in Tallahassee. I'd love to round up some local and southeast brews for trading. We have a couple of stores that carry micro-brew selection from around the country and I'm sure they are always on the lookout for new breweries to stock.

Count me in!

Re: BGG.CON 2012 beer trading
I would totally be into this, but I'm a bit skittish about bringing alcohol on the plane after bringing some wine back from France a few years ago. One of the bottles shattered and all my clothes smelled like Chardonnay for weeks.

Plus, I'm not 100% sure if I'll check my luggage and I doubt I'd be allowed to bring beer on the plane.

But you guys have my moral support.

You know I'm interested in this. There's a few key regional beers I'd love to try that we don't get down here in Texas like the ones from New Glauring.

Last year I packed 6 bottles in my checked luggage and wrapped them very well in clothes. I also had the bottles contained in ziplock bags to minimize leakage in case a bottle opened. This year, I may look into driving a shipment to Minot, ND and shipping it to a Dallas resident for the BGG.CON exchange. Just a thought at this point.

We'll have extras for those who can't bring some. Also, if you wanted to ship some to us, we're driving down and could pack a few extras.

How do you get the beer back to Canada though? Do you consume it at the con or ship it back to North Dakota?

I've flown with bottles of liquor in checked luggage before, but not beer. Kinda makes me nervous.

The best local beer here is Surly, but it comes in cans- definitely not going to put cans in checked luggage.

Sounds like fun, though!

Definitely unofficial. I figure individuals will meet up whenever is convenient. Also looking forward to some good Canadian brew...

Let's just say that the beer has a very short life expectancy when it is my my custody and care. It will never see the Canadian border.

Here is my tale from last year's BGG.CON. As you will see, beer is a very temporary possession for me.

If there is any beers you are specifically looking for from Oklahoma I am volunteering for BGGCON the whole week and can just load a bunch for you and drive it from OK to you at the show. PM me your wish list./DOC

HA! JINX!

Due to our arcane and restrictive alcohol laws, Oklahoma beer sucks! I'd trade with you but then I'd feel bad for ripping you off!

Oh...hadn't thought about shipping it to someone...

If I do this, I can bring some nice Vermont microbrews to share.

I would love if someone brought me some Oberon I miss it so....

I will recommend to all beer drinkers, check out the Franconia Brewery in McKinney TX. They give tours at 11 am, every Saturday only, for only $5, that comes with an endless cup and access to two of their special beers at the time Very much worth it! (although I think they had an accident not long ago while a tour was going on, so they may have stopped tours since, so best to call before planning)
