Dreadball Reference Cards, Resources and Links

Dreadball is a great game. Whether you are just getting into it or you've been playing for a while, here are some useful links for you!

Dreadball Reference Sheets:

Mantic Official Reference Sheets
Fairly good reference sheets for Seasons 1 - 3 teams, special abilities and MVP's.

Dreadball Team Managers:

Dreadball Online Team Manager: http://dreadball.paulsrants.com/roster.php

A nice simple way to keep track of your team online. It saves all of your teams and tracks MC, Game Results and Experience nicely. Sadly, it doesn't allow you to keep track of injuries, points scored or to customize your team logo.

Dreadball Excel Team Manager: https://thepaintingmonkey.wordpress.com/dreadball-roster-cre...

A much more extensive team manager. It gives you pretty much everything you could want in a team manager. It tracks player names, injuries, experience, points scored and upgrades. You can customize your team logo and theme the colouring of the roster. You can also keep track of league wins and losses. It requires macros.

Dreadball Results Tracker

Jake Thornton (the Designer of Dreadball) has posted a site that allows players around the world to track the results of their games. This provides helpful info on how teams perform, so the more players that contribute, the more accurate the results.

This is the best place I have found to meet other players, chat about tactics, share amazing photos and pitch designs.

A New Dreadball Pitch
I recently had the opportunity to put together a new Dreadball pitch. A friend in the Dreadball Fanatics Facebook group asked me to help him with a pitch for a tounament he's running. The desired pitch would be "futuristic" and useful as a play aid to teach the game. It should be large with areas to organized the game components. I was told that a pitch design by Robin Libbrecht would be a good starting point.

Robin's original pitch design:

Robin Libbrecht's fantastic original pitch design.
Here is what I came up with:

New Dreadball Pitch

It is designed to be printed at 24"x28" on a Two Player Playmat at InkedPlaymats.

In addition to using colors to indicate the various halves of the board and which player's rush it is etc, various other elements were added to help with gameplay.

Dreadball League Update Jan 2015 and Deadzone!

Our Dreadball League was rudely interrupted with the holidays, but we are back on track! We met up for our 4rth league night last week and there were tense games to be had! The Newmarket DirtyRats played the Ukomo Avalanchers, while the Silver Mountain Slammers faced the Hiveworld 8 Warriors.

See the standings and rosters here: http://boardgamesminisandmore.blogspot.ca/2015/01/dreadball-...

We have also been distracted by a few other fleets of fancy! Deadzone! Geoff and I got our first two games of Deadzone in and they were a blast. Geoff played Enforcers and I played Rebs in both games. In the first game, we both drew the exact same Mission card. We both had to survive, earning points for each round that half of our force stayed alive, while also earning points for kills. So, the game felt like a bit of cat and mouse as the Enforcers have higher firepower and armour. So, the Rebs basically hid and took pot shots here and there while slowly being mowed down. It was still a close game with the Enforcers finally winning with 10 points to the Rebs' 7 points.

The second game we played gave the Enforcers a kill order mission while the Rebs were given a Scour mission. This played heavily in the Enforcers' favour as my Rebs strike team was not built for a scour mission. I struggled to move equipment off the board, but eventually ran out of troops to effectively earn enough VP to win, so the Enforcers took home another victory with 10 points to the Rebs' 6. It was still a blast, but I look forward to beginning a league. In a league you will be able to draw a Mission card and THEN build your force for the mission you drew. I suspect the Scour missions will be more possible when a strike team has been built specifically for it. It is a challenge to pull off!

Then finally, I got in a Mars Attacks game. This game is awesome! It is dripping with theme, light, but feels very tactical and realistic. I played the first scenario, which felt very balanced with the humans being in the lead until civilians started emerging from the buildings, giving the Martians the opportunity to capture them and take the lead to win the game. While it has some more random elements and chaotic elements than Deadzone, the fun factor is high and I look forward to playing a lot more of this game!

Havana is taking shape, and Port Royal is complete for my Merchants & Marauders custom table. Well as complete as any table top game piece will be, before you go back and tweak it again later.

If you've been following the BGMM updates, this is part 5, but you can view all of the parts by flipping through the buttons at the bottom of the page here

3 stages in, building the ultimate modular table. The plan is to build a water based, double sided table, that can be layered to allow different water, island, and land based gaming on one table. The idea is that by making the base water, the land pieces can be placed within the frame on top, leaving a river in the middle, or a lake, or whatever I want, in whatever scale I want.

Check out the progress.

Dreadball Vassal Online - Overhaul with Dreadball XTREME

Originally posted on our little blog: www.boardgamesminisandmore.blogspot.ca

After much playtesting, I have overhauled the Dreadball Vassal Module to be more reminiscent of a real life tabletop experience. The new module allows players to manipulate dice on the tabletop as you would in real life. The boards all sit on a virtual tabletop and you can move tokens and pieces around the board and tabletop as you would in real life.

Many of the custom pitches have matching tokens populated when you choose them.

Further to this, I have added Dreadball XTREME Beta to the module so that players can begin playing XTREME while they wait for their models

Please try out the new revised module and let me know your thoughts!

Over the Holidays, with the help of many great artists and painters, I have developed a Dreadball Vassal Module. So we can all play Dreadball online! Mantic has given me permission to share the Dreadball Vassal Module I have developed. Please keep in mind that it is a work in progress.

When you open the Vassal Module, click the help menu at the top and select Quick Start. That will explain all the controls I have built in. You can also right click on the models/cards/tokens and it will give you a menu of options for what you can do.

Here is the latest Module: http://boardgamesminisandmore.blogspot.ca/2014/01/how-to-pla...

    Making a 2-Piece 4'x8' Warhammer/Warmachine table WIP

When I sold our old table, that we had played many a game upon, I was a little sad to see it go. However, the person who bought it was so happy with the table that they came back and asked for another one. This one was to be larger. In fact large enough that to put it in their basement, it needed to be made in two pieces.

I began with the base frames, made out of 2x3, and fastened OSB sheets to the frame before screwing the cross bracing, to ensure it was square.

Then applied a mortar mix to the surface with an old blister pack and putty knife. You can vary the texture easily, build it up instantly and shape it to look like mud or rocks, and even let it dry smooth as sand if you like. And best of all, it self adheres and is paintable within a few hours. The one I used was "infused with polymers," making it less brittle, cost $15 and was enough to do 3 - 4'x4' pieces, with more to spare.

When ready, I painted a black and grey base coat, done as a wash to settle into the texture. Then dry brushed layers of hazel and tan.

The style of table they want is one with a spring thaw, of mixed grass and snow. So I've put on a mix of salt and baking soda, as well as flock and static grass mix, sifted through a metal strainer, which in my experience makes most of them stand up on end.

So I still have some work to do, more blending of snow and some ice in the frozen ponds. I'll be using a crackle solution on top of the blue base.

I hope to update this with the finished table and hopefully they will send me some shots of models and terrain on it!

As Usual, check out boardgamesminisandmore.blogspot.ca for more info!
