GamesByRich.com: Classic Games Redefined blog

This is the blog formally known as Docreason's Designer HQ (the rest TBD). It focuses the thoughts of the design process of Rich Hutnik and other things Rich, gaming related (pretty much), finds interesting. The change in name reflects a bit of a change in focus and branding.

Buy 25 or just 5 0 4? (Song parody of 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago)

I did pick up 504. With the game, 25 or 6 to 4 is floating around in my head. I take this as a time for a parody. So, in my pondering the battle between sanity and wanting the new, and my thinking that 504 could end up being the only game I end up playing, I give you this parody:

"Buy 25 or just 5 0 4"
On the Geek every day
Searching for something new to play
Popping ads on the side
Evermore, in front of my eyes

Starring eagerly, wanting more...
Buy 25 or just 5 0 4?

Staring madly at the page
Seeing the Hotness in my face
Thinking they all be great
But there's one I can forever play
Should I try to buy many more?
Buy 25 or just 5 0 4?

Oh yeah
Wondering how much I really need
Space's shrinking from collection creep

Searching for something new to play
On the Geek every day
Buy 25 or just 5 0 4?
Buy 25 or just 5 0 4?
Alright

And here is the original:

I am now able to get onto the Net more often, and do real messaging. My Android device died on me, so I went and got a laptop.

I landed a job with NY state and relocated to Albany. I would be up for knowing where the games are played up here. I am likely to really network next year. I am still getting settled in.

The details are here:

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1455631/added-rules-regardi...

This should make it a bit easier for a player to be able to be able to pull off Trollin'.

I am busy with the relocation, so my posting is limited on here.

Just a head's up. I am looking at a shot at landing a job in Albany, NY with NY state, and there will be a relocation. There is always the background check stuff, but an offer was extended. So, I am likely on my way to Albany. With that will come myself being offline awhile. Well, I will check email with my Android device, but I will be away pretty much. This blog will go quiet, as will my YouTube stuff.

Will see how it goes from there.

As of now, I am up to 48 action cards. I am still playtesting a base 10-15 cards, so will see how it goes.

Status report on playtesting the action cards for Trollin' (up for more playtesters)

So, I tried the some of the action cards out solitaire, 2 players and also with 3. I did the game with 4+, without the cards, and it went well. So, time to try single player and a few others. I did cap off the cards used for a game to 10, which seemed to work well. In addition, I am using chips to track what cards were played. By having the chips equal the number of cards in play, and using them as a timing mechanism, issues of game length work out. I also have a limit of a card being only used once per game (there is one card that allows players to score one point each time played on, and it can be played on more than once in a game).

Overall the concept went really well, with the cards adding another dimension to the game. I do need a bunch more playtesting and ironing out how the cards work. For example, one thing I found is what I thought a cool power of a Sock Puppet card giving a player a second hand just didn't work. It got changed to a player having the option to score no points for the round.

Well, on to more playtesting and so on. Hopefully I can get some more playtesting in with the game.

So, all I can say is I could be up for some people who want to playtest. I could get you the cards, and you could print out and try it. I would be up also for input into other things also. My goal is to go commercial with the cards. I am thinking of having a base set of maybe 15 action cards for the game, and then do an expansion with a bunch more and equipment for 5-6 players. I am currently up to 40 cards to try out.

Making Trollin' commercially viable with the use of rule breaking action cards.

My next step in developing Trollin' is to act action cards players can use to change the rules. I am going to try a bunch out and see how it goes. I am looking to have things like, "You Mad Bro?", "Flamewar" and other actions players can do, as a way to tweak scoring and other parts. Think of powers like in Cosmic Encounter, but not permanent through all hands. The game will be inspired by different areas on the Internet where trolling and flamewars happen. Some cards may offend purists some areas, but it is more like trying to mirror what things represent as a play mechanic that works, that trying to do satire. In short, simulate Internet trolling and flamewars through the use of a trick-taking card mechanic.

Will see how it goes. It goes well, I may have a commercially viable product that plays well. My hope is that the game will end up inspiring people to come up with their own cards.

Rules change for InVicio

I had been tweaking InVicio. The rules change:

This is an additional win condition. A player can also win if they occupy 7 of the 12 middle spaces (those not around the edge) of the board. I found it did speed up the game some.
