Thunder Alley is rapidly approaching a reality. Credit cards have been charged, the ship is approaching the docks, the racing is about to begin.

It has been a long time coming (but not nearly so long as the 6 years it took for Manoeuvre) and both Carla & I are chomping at the bit to get a copy of our very own in our grimy little paws. I cannot stress how much I appreciate each and every person that has believed in us enough to pre-order a game and allow us to be a small part of your game nights and family fun.

So thank you and know that we hope everyone that gets a copy of the game will have a great time making left turns at full speed. Slam the hammer down, remember that rubbin' is indeed racin' and 2nd place is just the first loser.

Some of you may have seen that Thunder Alley has been delayed for another month. It is regrettable but I am still told that I will have it in my hand in time for Origins. I look forward to playing it at the first big convention of the summer.

The final cover art for the front and back of the box crossed my paths recently. They look fantastic. I will not be previewing them, but leaving their reveal until the game comes out. But I must say pretty snazzy. thans to Rodger B. MacGowan, Mark Simonitch and Kurt Miller for making this game really stand out even without plastic cars. You will be pleased with the look.

Remember you can still pre-order the game at:

Most Anticipated of 2014

I thought I would take a second and let those of you that didn't already know that Thunder Alley is in a poll on BGG for the most anticipated sports game of 2014. I would encourage everyone to go to the poll and vote your conscience. There are a number of interesting games on the list and just looking at it has made me excited for the new year. Of course we would like to win the category, but maybe you decide that elephant racing or kaosball is more to your liking, that's OK too.

The only reason to win is to push sales of the game. Winning means nothing but it does give the game an opportunity to be introduced to more people. More people is a potential for more sales. More sales means more future support of the game such as tracks, expansions and other types of racing.

So go take a look at the poll:
http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/167744/20-most-anticipated...

If you can take a moment, place a vote or two. I encourage you to not vote blindly for Thunder Alley but to vote none the less.

I wanted to give everyone following Thunder Alley an update. The rules are finished, the game is finished and I believe everyting to be in the hands of the printers at this point.

The near-final rules version have been placed here.
http://www.gmtgames.com/thunder/TA%20RULES-FINAL.pdf

Go look them over and early in 2014 let the racing begin.

Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement. Without you gys it would not have gotten done.

Also in 2014 look for more information regarding Horger Games as Carla & I attempt to start our own publishing concern. Once again thanks to all of our friends, supporters and fans. We love you all and we are setting ourselves on a course to bring the best games we can find to you for your gaming fun.

I wanted to make a post letting everyone know that Thunder Alley is listed in a Geeklist for the the most anticipated game of 2014. It would help the game's profile if you took a second to pop over there and thumb it. Making the final vote would be a big boost as we try to nail down a few more preorders for the game.

Thanks.

Cards-Oversteer & Understeer

Jeff Horger

Today I will return to my review of the Racing cards from Thunder Alley. Specifically we will look at the twin cards of Oversteer and Understeer. These cards are common and produce blue suspension wear which is removable during a pit stop. They have a low speed of 5 Movement Points and both utilize pursuit movement.

WHY ARE THEY IN THE GAME?
These cards were an addition that we used to help break things up a bit. The game can get into a groove with people pushing, pulling and drafting the lines. The competitive challenge is for players to get into the lines and mix it up. But we felt that we needed some parts of the game to help that "breaking up" along. These are two of those cards. Not only are they pursuit movement, so they break the line behind them, but once movement is complete, the active car may slip out of line itself due to steering issues. So the breakup is linear as well as lateral.

Of course there are ways to mitigate the impact of the under and oversteer. If you stay close to the inside/outside of the track you can avoid the "popping out of line" effect. If you are racing in a pack there may be nowhere to go and that will nullify the effect. Sometimes you can use it to actually improve your position such as pushing one line in front of another and then slipping your active car into the front of the other line.

Over time these cards have gone through many changes and modifications. In truth they may be the most modified card in the game. As the rules have morphed and evolved the card has been the one that required the most fixes to stay in the spirit of the game. Occasionally it got more brutal and confrontational allowing you to slam into cars or walls that were where you needed to be. The issue has always been that the card itself and its 5 movement points has never been worth the penalty of body damage to the active car or the nearby ones. So in the end we brought it back to what you see now.

The game is still on pre-order at the GMT website:
http://www.gmtgames.com/p-359-thunder-alley.aspx

The game has a Facebook page which is the only place to see and comment on sneak peaks of the art:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Thunder-Alley/128422033924619

Thunder Alley will be at Con on the Cob on Saturday October 19. The event ID is BGSA181001

I will also host at least one game of Thunder Alley at the Buckeye Game Fest next month.

Thought I would take a break from the card descriptions to let everyone know that I sent my files off last week so that the artist could begin to turn my ideas and concepts into a finished product. I can't wait to see what will come of it.

So not much info yet and nothing to take a look at even, but just the knowledge that somewhere, someone is beginning to transform my ugly duckling into a swan is very exciting. In case you had not heard Kurt Miller will be doing the Thunder Alley art. I think it is a great sign that an artist that worked on Age of Renaissance (my favorite game) will be doing this one too.

Next time I will resume the breakdown of the cards unless some substantial news reaches me about the progress of the game.
