Wow,my last post was February 24th or some such. That's lame. Sadly, it pretty accurately reflects gaming for me of late, not happening. The good news, I got to break the trend Thursday of last week.

We had Brian and Alicia over. I know Brian was itching for some more Race for the Galaxy but with the wives present I thought that would be not very nice of the gents. We went ahead and played a single game though. I've not played it four player before. I had the the privilege of being the guy who tries to walk us through the stages and who accounts for all the bonuses and what-not people have as they play along. It meant I didn't get to really immerse myself in the experience of trying to game three other players.

As it happened, I rolled out with New Sparta. I decided to try and run the military gauntlet. I had moderate luck. I several low point military worlds early on, then a short dry spell. What I never saw was a 6 point military development. One thing I noticed about the larger game is that you didn't seem to see the variety of cards I feel like I see in a 2 player game. It seems like it's more important than ever that you do whatever the other folks aren't

We then got out Aquaretto. I love this game, it's a great, light Euro for non-gamers. They get caught up in the theme enough that they forget it's difficult and unfamiliar. I don't know why but Brian has a real talent for this game. He won by something lie 20 points. He doesn't even seem to know why he did so well. I noticed he played Hippos and Bears very heavily and doubled up on the fish houses. Bonus points did abound for him then.

Finally a little Zombie Fluxx. It was agreed by all playing that it's a bit more cohesive than Monty Python Fluxx. I found though that when you have some people trying to play Fluxx, some people trying to play a zombie game and some people who like getting the most annoying rules into play possible, it makes the game drag a bit. Still, a generally good game.

It was great to have friends over to game again and considering my last gaming experience was Bananagrams and Loaded Questions, it was nice to play some good games again.

I sent out the invite for the next games evening. The plan had been to do it some Saturday in March. It just wasn't going to work. So, sent and invite fro April 2nd. I'm going to feature Acquire and For Sale. I'm waiting to see what comes back RSVP-wise. I may end up going to Meetup.com and trying to get some local gamers involved. We'll see though. I'm still hoping for a group of friends rather than ringers.
