Welborn Family Gaming

Welcome to Larry and Melissa's blog. We focus on two player gaming and gaming with our two children, ages 10 & 8. This blog will feature random musings, gaming reports and reviews from both of us. We will also post some non-gaming thoughts from time to time. Feel free to join in the discussions.

Another good weekend of gaming for the Welborn Family. We started out with Family Game Night on Friday. First up was two games of Liar's Dice. I won both games. My session report: We try out a new variant.

After that we played Defenders of the Realm. Things started poorly and went downhill fast as we lost in only 5 turns. My session report: Taint, Taint, Taint, Taint, Taint . . . Loss.

We finished the evening with a game of Thurn and Taxis. It was both kids first play and they did very well. Me, on the other hand, made a fundamental error early when I screwed up a 7 city collection and could never recover. My wife won a close victory over my son. I captured third and my daughter finished a point behind me.

On Saturday, I played Dogfight for the first time in 35 years or so. My kids played well but lost. My session report: Curse you, Red Baron!!!.

That evening my wife and I got in two games of Dominion: Prosperity played with the base game of Dominion. I won the first game easily 57-43. The second game was close but I escaped with a 59-54 win.

On Sunday my wife and I went over to our friends, Aaron and Sara, for an afternoon of gaming. First up was Power Grid. Although I really enjoy this game, it is not one that I get to play very often. The game proved very close and Sara grabbed the victory with 17 powered cities. I finished 2nd with 16, Aaron 3rd with 15 and my wife last with 14.

They had bought Dominion but had only played it once. We taught them how to play and got in two games. I won both, Aaron finished 2nd both times, and Sara and my wife each had a 3rd and 4th place finish. I have mocked my wife ever since for the whopping 12 points she scored in game one.

All in all, a good weekend of gaming.
