Oh crap, I forgot the skull vodka in the freezer and now I'm at work. That stuff shouldn't freeze, eh?
Timm and Kevin arrived a bit early, as normal, as they really wanted to get spanked playing our ongoing game of Sheepshead. Early, I increased my lead from +43 to +50 then I lost my first hand after winning my last 12 hands in a row. They were jubliant! We ended up building up some "doublers" and have two waiting for us the next time we bust out the deck. Timm ended the game by no schnitzing us. Overall, I gained a point +44. Timm went from -21 to -7 and Kevin is -30something.
Chris arrived and we decided to bust out McMulti. After a bit of a refresher we got going. Of course, I botched a couple of rules. The first one really didn't affect all that much but the second one we hosed when we first played it too. The rule where oil prices always go up when the economic climate changes. Because of that, gas was super cheap and a few of us didn't sell. Chris was able to capitalize on the fix quicker than we were and then managed to crank up the gas production and win pretty handedly. Next time, I will have the rules down and we can play a astrisk free game. I know there are dice rolls, I know the strategy is somewhat limited from what others note in reviews and such, but I like the game. To me, it's more about timing and speculation than anything. That type of luck doesn't bother me. An old quote I had seen, and I paraphrase...Luck is where preperation meets opportunity.
I like that quote.
As normal, Mr. Modelo had joined the session and while playing I realized we had listed to quite the eclectic mix of music. We went from ELO to the Violent Femms to Snoop Dog.
After McMulti, we broke out Saint Petersburg. The game felt weird (I have to agree with Chris on that) but I, nor Chris, could really put our finger on it. Perhaps it was Kevin buying all the buildings? Perhaps it was us really playing turn position? Buildings were pretty neglected by Chris and Timm and I had some down and built over for points and money. Kevin, on the other hand, was buying up the 5's and 11's and was ultimately getting them very cheap. Because of that, Kevin ended up having a run away win with 90 points. I ended up in second as I was pretty well rounded in getting points and had a big push at the end with slapping down the Acadmey (or something like that). I had 77. Chris had 76 and was by far the leader in having aristocrats. Timm, ended with 64. I don't play this game much with four but it's good, perhaps best, with that number.
