Queen Games 2011 Release Schedule

Queen Games' Rajive Gupta has passed along an outline for what gamers can expect to see from the German publisher, while also noting that some dates might change down the road. Titles already released in 2011 include:

Fresco: Expansion modules 4, 5 and 6 (Glaziers)
Fresco: Expansion 7 (Scrolls)
New York (special edition of Alhambra)
Shogun: Tenno's Court
Showmanager

Three titles were released in German editions in that country in March 2011 in order to make them eligible for the curent year's Spiel des Jahres award, the nominees for which will be announced on May 23, 2011. Those titles are:

Lancaster
Mammut
Paris Connection

Titles still in the pipeline from Queen Games, along with estimated release dates are:

Paris Connection (international edition) – May 10, 2011
Lancaster (international edition) – May 25, 2011
Mammut (international edition) – June 20, 2011
German Railways – July 20, 2011
Res Publica (new edition) – August 20, 2011
Thebes: The Card Game – August 20, 2011
Castelli – September 20, 2011
Dschunke (new edition) – October 20, 2011 (aka, Spiel 2011)
Kairo – October 20, 2011
Wallenstein (new edition) – October 20, 2011

A number of the titles listed above were previously announced as Spiel 2010 releases, but Queen Games (and several other publishers) were left without games to sell when just prior to the convention the manufacturer Scheer announced that it could not deliver many games it was supposed to produce. "There has been a perception that what was shown at Essen [in 2010] must be released first, but we are not following that schedule. Instead we will try to suit individual releases," says Gupta. "I believe by the end of this fall we should be back on track."

Gupta notes that this list is not complete as Queen might have a few more titles on hand at Spiel 2011 – but given the vagaries of production, he released no details as to what these titles might be.

Very disappointed at some of the pricing on these. Tenno's Court for example seems quite expensive for what you get. arrrh

Hey, no disrespecting the Queen like that! devil

Queens, as we all know, are very expensive.

I know what you mean. I love Fresco, but the latest expansion Fresco: The Scrolls is really expensive for the core game components you receive.

I do respect (and appreciate!) that they released that expansion to retail rather than just through promotion, but the end result was too expensive. I suspect the problem lies with production and distribution costs, not necessarily with margin. That doesn't bode well for our hobby i'm afraid.

I'd be satisfied if they actually release Wallenstein this time. I remember the listing early last year saying it would release October *2010*.

They need to drop the prices of their expansions. They offer less than the original and they cost more!

It'd probably be $40 bucks for expansions that do nothing but add more luck to the game.

I like Queen games though not some of their boxes... But it seems their last round of releases have done poorly. New York is the spin off no one asked for and no one seems to be buying. Discover India has attracted no attention and seems to light for anyone on this forum. The expansions are getting slammed for a poor value. And no Samarkand expansion. I hope they can straighten things out after a strong 2009.

I wonder if a "Green game" is still considered to be "Green" if it is just ten tiles packaged in an inordinately large box?

I guess the answer to that question is: "Yes, it is a Green game since you gave us your green for it."

I like some of the Queen games a lot.

I look forward to learning more about Thebes the card game. Lancaster looks pretty good.

I've enjoyed playing Fresco with the Glaziers, going to add the Scrolls too. I think Fresco is a nice game to play, beautifully designed.

Interestingly enough Thebes used stacks of cards instead of draws from bags originally. I'm positive that it wouldn't be hard to make a card game version of it since it was originally.
