• A Trio of Game Releases from Blackhelios: Alien Menace, Joan of Arc - The Game - Apr 18,19,25
Mad_albin tipped me off to the existence of a trio of games by a developer named Blackhelios. These apps are fairly new, having been released to the App Store this month.

Alien Menace - Apr 25

The first is called Alien Menace, and appears to be a port of the as-yet-to-be-released card game of the same name by Hazgaard Editions. The card game is inspired by FPS (First Person Shooter) video games. It looks really cool! It launched with a $0.99 price but has since been raised to $1.99.

Joan of Arc - The Game - Apr 18
The second is a port of a print board game that came out 13 years ago named Joan of Arc. Now the reviews of this game in the BGG database come off as kind of lukewarm. Some reviewers say the game seems to have a lot of potential, but needs tweaking.

The (three) reviews of this new app all say that the game has some got some serious bugs. That may well be, so step with care. But one thing I can tell you is that the graphics of this app look freaking amazingly beautiful! It certainly looks like a $5.99 app.

Chromino - Apr 19
And there's even a third app that I discovered here, again released just this month. It's an iOS version of Chromino and it's free! Really, this is just such an odd combination of games to suddenly find. I hope to check them out more closely.

• Photo Party Released - Apr 21
A developer named VicoSoft has released an iOS version of the print board game Photo Party put out by Cocktail Games in 2010. Accoring to the game here you take 12 cards and a camera with a timer, read a card that describes what players must do in front of the lens and then press the button. Wackiness ensues. And with some kind of Facebook integration as well to share all the silliness. Looks like a fun party game, no?

• Ripples to the Viking Lords Piece - Apr 23, 28
I was a bit surprised to see that there was a minor ripple effect on another gaming blog and podcast to our exclusive interview with Puffin Software on their game Viking Lords. I think it's great that people are discussing some of the issues raised by that piece. As far as we know, however, there has been no word that a suit has yet been filed. • Dungeon Solitaire Update - Apr 27
JC Connors reports that Griptonite Games has updated this born-digital BGG favorite to v2.9.

Griptonite Games wrote:
What's new

Fixed bugs:

- Abyssal Mirror - Added the missing hero card, the Lunar Adept (3/4 with Curse!).
- Fixed the Regenerate tie ability. If Regenerate activates whilst in a battle chain it now only returns one card into the deck.
- Restoring the game from sleep mode now works on all devices.
- When selecting expansion decks it does not let you select ones outside of the selection box.

• The 7th Guest: Infection Released - Apr 27
Aka Ataxx, this app is based on the devilish microscope puzzle that was intentionally left out of Trilobyte Games' iOS version of 7th Guest. It is now available as a stand alone iOS board game in the App Store.

• Fantasy Flight Games Releases Hey That's My Fish! - Apr 28
And finally, from the out-of-nowhere department comes a Tweet from a cute aquatic non-flying bird telling us that the mighty Fantasy Flight Games has finally released a bonafide stand-alone iOS board game app, an official port of Hey That's My Fish! The Universal iOS app is being simultaneously released with an Android version as well. Way to go FFG!

People were pretty excited to see FFG's previously released Arkham Horror ToolKit just four months ago in January. And eight months before that in May 2010 it was the Warhammer Fantasy Role Playing Toolkit. I won't hold my breath that FFG will stick to that pattern and surprise us all with TI3 in the next two months. Perhaps, however, we can hopefully take this as a good sign that a sleeping giant might just be waking up to the promise of tablet device board gaming.

• PhoneDog Contemplates Cross-Platform Question - Apr 29
An article at PhoneDog ask the question, "Should developers focus on cross-platform multiplayer gaming?"

It certainly depends on the developer and the product and business model, but obviously the answer is yes. Here's a little more:

PhoneDog wrote:
Should developers focus on cross-platform multiplayer gaming?

There’s been a lot said about gaming on our mobile devices. And, there’s no stopping the momentum that the digital medium is facing right now. Apple, Google and Microsoft are all in a position to make gaming on our smartphones not just a fad, but something that’s crucial to the future of our devices. But, as fun as it is playing those games on our mobile phones, the multiplayer aspect of some of these recently released titles is what drives some purchases. Could developers face wider adoption of their games if they broadened their multiplayer outlook, and let gamers play cross-platform titles with their friends?

Your blog is great. You find things I am not even looking for but want. I grabbed Hey that's my fish last night. It is a really good version. Being that the game is simple I can't imagine this was a huge effrt for FFG. I hope they do more (along with Days of Wonder) as they are producing real quality Iapps.

Chromino has six 1-star reviews right now. Black Helios is coming across like a big joke of a developer. They won't be seeing a dime from me.

I would be interested in HTMF! but not for $4.99. Seems a little high for this type of game. Maybe I am just spoiled...
