Living It Up in the Himalaya
This is just a quick write-up, nothing fancy.
Bjorn got off to a good start, but soon Sietse took over the lead. From there on in Michiel got into a battle with Sietse for all kinds of things (stupa's, then political influence), and Bjorn was left to his own devices and profited nicely.
Mark, in the meantime, was doing okay, but just not good enough. Stupa's he didn't have enough of and as the game progressed it looked like he wasn't going to get enough either. His comment that he indeed wouldn't manage to get back into the game had most of us fooled.
Sietse took the battle to me to see if he could beat me in the political phase, with Bjorn still racking up the points and out of danger in all areas. It was already clear it was Bjorn's game to lose.
Then, going into the 11th turn, Sietse suddenly realised Mark was not only going to tie him for stupa's but was going to gain one more, with few to no spots left to build stupa's. So the brilliantly set-up final with Bjorn and Sietse was not to be as Sietse found, going into the last round, that there was no way of beating Mark anymore in stupa's. The entire last round Sietse felt he was playing for no real reason since he knew he had lost.
With Sietse out and Mark's last-ditch effort getting him to the second round it was an easy win for Michiel and Bjorn as Mark of course had had no time to focus on the political aspect of the game.
The final then was between Bjorn and Michiel, and while the latter had picked up a number of points still in the last round for most cubes, it was not to be - an easy win for Bjorn, as had been clear for a while.
