I really wanted to like Hammer of the Scots, I really did! I exchanged a foil copy of Earth Reborn for HotS because I did not find anybody wanting to buy ER from me. First thought was to try to sell HotS as well but my wargaming inner self said: "Let's give it a try!". I relented.

After unpacking I had a little bit mixed feelings. Yes, the artwork is simply fantastic, the board looks great, cover looks nice, blocks look impressive but... the quality of the map and the box. You know, it's not a cheapest game on the market. Yes, I am grumbling

Anyway I prepared the game for playing, read the rules, which are quite short but contain some exceptions and small rules, invited a friend and started playing.

I really wanted to like Hammer of the Scots. And guess what? I DID! A lot! As I said the rules are fairly simple but the wintering part gives this game a small euro flavour which I really liked! It's not how you fight and throw dice it's how you manage to play your cards in best way so you control as many noble territories as possible. As we played I felt more and more excited as I saw all the possibilities and all decisions which I had to make in this game. Another factor is that situation changes rapidly. One moment English look impressive with their forces and the second later the Scots take the lead on the board.

This game looks like a perfect mix of war theme, euroish flavour and excitment which comes from dice. I recommend it for all and I can't wait for second play
