Just a short one this weekend and I forgot to take pics... First up was 7 Wonders since we had 6 players and were waiting for Cary and Anna. Will won this one with a strong military showing and ended up with a lot of money at the end.
Next up my first play of De Vulgari Eloquentia. I enjoyed the designer's game Siena so I was curious about this one. Basically each player gets 5 actions to 1)collect resources-money, knowledge or political clout (ie. cubes) 2)move up different tracks to gain different benefits and 3)collect VP. The most VP wins of course. There are so many different things you can do each turn it takes a while to figure it out and in a learning game there is considerable down time. Oh I totally didn't figure out where the points were coming from in this game finished well beyond dead last but willing to give it another go. I've had Rheinländer sitting in my closet off and on for years. Finally got the chance to play it with Cary, Anna and Matt. Kind of a simplistic Acquire. Pleasant game and not too taxing on the brain. Finished off the night with Mogul. Played this once before but it was so long ago I had no memory of it. We tried it and made a slight error in play so it goes on the try again list.
On Tues I got to try Pantheon which I had just received. I had printed off the English rules and player aids and punched the game and was ready to go. Since it was only Cary and I, we tried it 2 player. It worked fairly well. A solid Euro in my book. I would imagine best with 3. Pic of the final board with some close ups Each player starts off with a bonus. I started with a gods which gave 2 money towards buys and Cary started off with an extra foot and column. You also get 5 cards which are basically resources to turn in with which you can move on the board or purchase gods or more permanent tiles which count as a resource every turn. When you move on the board you get to put little wooden feet out to show your path. You can pick up tiles which give benefits or place columns which give points. There are 2 scoring rounds mid game and end game. When you buy gods you earn points equal to the round you are in. It took a few minutes to get used to the icons but really it was pretty easy. The end of the round is controlled by the players which can be kind of nasty. It's one of those games where you hope you get one more turn before the round ends...All in all I liked it and look forward t another go.
