Today we took a first look at The Great Fire of London 1666 (newly arrived yesterday). My boys enjoy The Downfall of Pompeii so I figured they'd take to this thematically similar but more complex game.. and they did.

First impressions:
- The large board looks great. wooden houses come in six different colours and the blue and purple chosen are a bit too similar in my colour-blind opinion, but if don't play as either colour it shouldn't be a big issue.
- setup took forever. I did it myself before the kids got home so we'd be able to play right away (no homework this week, that starts next week)

After I'd explained the basics and talked us all through a couple of rounds the game went pretty smoothly - my seven-year-old (a veteran boardgamer) was able to grasp the rules and spent several turns plotting the destruction of the Tower Of London which he'd (rightfully) deducted I was protecting. and he almost pulled it off

We all three enjoyed the game - I won mostly by swooping in and extinguishing fires after my 12yo had placed (neutral/communal) firefighters in opportune positions. I expect we'll get it on the table again soon.

My 7yo and I also played Flash Duel again - he's clearly absorbed the rules since we first played yesterday and he gave me a run for my money this time. Today's match ended 3-2 in my favour but I expect he'll be beating me by this time next week.

Ah, hmm. Was wondering why these kept showing up in my subscriptions. Didn't realize that games tagged would trigger it. That's pretty cool
