U.S. publisher Fantasy Flight Games has unloaded a huge list of titles bearing an August 2011 release date, i.e. probably debuting at Gen Con. Let's group them by category for easier digestion:

Standalone Games
-----Arcana (revised edition)
-----Gears of War: The Board Game
-----Hey, That's My Fish!
-----The Adventurers: The Pyramid of Horus

Expansions for FFG's Living Card Games
-----A Game of Thrones: The Card Game - Here to Serve
-----A Game of Thrones: The Card Game - Princes of the Sun (revised edition)
-----Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game - Kingsport Dreams (revised edition)
-----Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game - The Shifting Sands
-----The Lord of The Rings: The Card Game - The Hills of Emyn Muil
-----Warhammer: Invasion - The Inevitable City

Expansions for Dust Tactics
-----Dust Tactics: "Axis Gorillas" - Blutkreuz Korps Kampfaffen Squad
-----Dust Tactics: "Axis Zombies" - Blutkreuz Korps Untertoten Squad
-----Dust Tactics: "Grim Reapers" - Heavy Ranger Attack Squad
-----Dust Tactics: "Tank Busters" - Heavy Ranger Tank Hunter Squad
-----(I'm polling players of Dust Tactics as to the best way to name expansions. Chime in if you haven't already...)

Expansions for Tannhäuser
-----Tannhäuser: Iroh
-----Tannhäuser: Shogunate Troop Pack

Phew! The list had other items, such as card sleeves with art from FFG games, but I'm sticking with game coverage and leaving it at that.

How good is Arcana? I haven't played it before.. or even heard of it actually...

i've only played it a handful of times, but it's a decent filler. reminds me of a simplified Thunderstone, if you've tried that. Looks like the updated version is getting bigger cards in a bigger box, which I think would help the feel of the game.

Hmmm, I'll have to check it out then. I just recently got Thunderstone Dragonspire and it's seen its fair share of plays since getting it. Love the combo of mechanics and theme in this game. Is Arcana a deck builder like Thunderstone? Or just more card-centric than other games?

Apart from Gears of War (and if like me you are not to keen on FF co-ops then its not that exciting) i'd say it was a pretty average looking list; Arcana and Hey that's my Fish are old games and the rest are expansions (great if you like those games). I had high hopes for the August FF list as two years ago it included Middle Earth Quest and Chaos in the Old World.

A bit more same old same old. Granted Gears of War is new. Right now I'd settle for an announcement of something new for Descent. looks like it'll be sometime after Gencon at the earliest which probably means nothing new this year - Shame :crycrycry

Arcana is a really good game. I would highly recommend it. It is like a deck building game but very different than any out there. You will not go wrong with getting it!

Hills of Emyn Muil coming out in August? Does this mean that we'll be getting 4 LOTR LCG Adventure Packs in the space of two months? Emyn Muil is the 4th of 6 and the 1st (Hunt for Gollum) isn't coming out until the end of June/beginning of July.

Nothing new on this yet. For plenty of wild speculation see this thread:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/653951/reprint-scheduled...

With the HBO series going strong the absence of this game raises a few eyebrows. Among FLGS owners you can change that the anger! You have a heavily viewed TV show to drive sales of the game but it's no where to be seen. It is every game designers wildest dream to have a TV tie-in to their game so something odd must be going on. The game is listed on the FFG website as a reprint. There have been a number of games that have that have gone out of print since GoT went OOP and those are back in stock so I'd guess that this is going to be more than just a straight reprint. If it was then the game would have been available when the HBO series started.

Oddly, someone in the above thread mentioned going to the FFG event center last week and picking up a copy along with the two expansions!! But the FFG online store lists the base game and the expansions as out of stock. Oddly the expansions are not listed in FFGs list of upcoming games.

Here's my speculative thoughts:

A) Game of Thrones The Boardgame with be redeveloped into a big box game with small plastic minis to replace the generic wooden tokens. They may also be incorporating one or both expansions into this as well. This would make a product that existing owners of the boardgame may consider buying so they could get all the cool new stuff. Although I'm not sure of the logic of pulling your nice $60 price point in the Game of Thrones line-up and making it a $90 game. As prices currently stand you have the LCG at $40, the boardgame at $60 and Battles of Westeros at $80 which makes for a nice progression. Customers can pick the style and price point they like. If the prices changed to $40, $80 and then $90 for a big box game there would likely be many that would baulk at the high price.

B) A licensing issue has reared it's ugly head to interfere with the process. Maybe now that the HBO series has proven to be successful with a 2nd season guaranteed perhaps Mr. Martin has decided the license for his property demands more in the way of compensation. It's certainly possible. And speculation is that that may be what happened when FFG suddenly dropped all World of Warcraft product. Blizzard was asking for too much and FFG decided it wasn't financially worth it.

It's very similar to Thunderstone's mechanic of either buying cards or defeating enemies and adding them to your deck. Everything gets shuffled in.

Descent is still going strong. The base game, 1st expansion and Roads to Legend are all OOP right now and are listed on their reprint/upcoming games list. So maybe they'll wait till those key products come back before introducing something new.

Also, it looks like the list of upcoming new stuff is full of expansions for newer games that need support to get them really established. I don't think it's a coincidence that FFG announced in-store play programs/tournaments for several products this year (Dust Tactics and each of their LCGs) and now their upcoming games list is clogged with products to support those lines. The in-store play programs are something new that FFG kicked off late last year or early this year and it takes a good deal of effort on the part of the publisher to foster the growth of these programs. These programs are certainly beneficial to the growth of the games as anyone that plays Magic, Heroclix, Pokemon or any number of similar games can tell you. This is something new for FFG so I'd expect a bit of rough water so to speak in the months ahead as they get their feet wet with the process. That will likely mean some other game lines, like Descent, will take a backseat for a while to these games. Especially give their popularity. The Lord of the Rings LCG base set sold out in a month. The Game of Thrones LCG base set sold out a while back and will be back on shelves soon.

Black Gold was solicited as a May 2011 release, and Deadwood is July 2011.

I know, it didn't do well enough to warrant an expansion. But those of us who 'get' Android would really like to see an expansion some day - it's just ripe for additional characters and storylines...

Which one? Isn't there another Game of Thrones Board game coming out? Not the old board game and not the lcg some kind of adventure game if I remember.

The list is a bit lackluster overall. It would appear the momentum has stopped.

Nothing new for Mansions of Madness, nothing for blood bowl team manager.

I grew tired of FFG's attempts at miniatures after they dropped distribution for Rackham and their ill conceived attempt at mutant chronicles. Even if Dust tactics ir a truly great game, I wont make that same mistake again.

Arcana does look promising though as it appears to be a fairly significant revision of the game from what I have gathered.

Gears of War will hopefully be successful as I am sure there are tons of fans wanting another co-op even if it did take several years for this title to be released. I wish it well even if I have no interest.

Hopefully the new adventurers game will have a better replay value than the first, even though it is fun.

Lots of previous projects have no mention of their previously announced support.

Not a bad showing so I guess I shouldn't be too critical. But after last year, this year seems very conservative.

No, he's in Minnesota so probably gets first access. My FLGS expects it tomorrow.

Does FFG have any secret or to be announced stuff in the GenCon events calendar?

Nothing new for Mansions of Madness,

I was wondering about that too, thinking they would strike while the iron is hot. Ah well, I haven't bought the game yet anyway. Based on what I've read about it, I'll probably wait until there's at least an expansion or two out so as to up the number of scenarios available.

The list is a bit lackluster overall. It would appear the momentum has stopped.

FFG's putting out more games in a month than many companies do in a year. WotC's not even putting out this many games.

From everything I can tell it is only the original board game coming out. There seems to be no plan to re-release the expansions.

I hope for FFG's sake there has been some error in this list and they didn't really name the Zombies for Dust "Untertoten" instead of "Untoten". Otherwise it's gonna ensure hilariousness.

Perhaps you're thinking of Battles of Westeross, which is the Battle Lore spin-off set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. It's been out a while.

No, he means A Song of Ice and Fire: The Adventure Game.

How good is Arcana? I haven't played it before.. or even heard of it actually...

It's criminally overlooked, though I do admit that it is best with 3+ players while remaining a perfectly fine 2p game. What really sets it apart is the bluffing and bribing. Unlike most other deckbuilding games, you do not simply buy a card and shuffle it in. No, you have to compete with your opponent and win the card. Plus, every non-starting card has a VP value at the end, so you might fight for a card based on its power or based on its VP value alone.

Well worth the effort. It's such a good game if you want a deckbuilder with a twist.

Alas, the more time goes by, the smaller the chances for an expansion for Middle-Earth Quest seem to be.

Yeah I know they want to get their new stuff going but their older stuff needs some love too. Surprised for example not to see another expansion for Starcraft with the computer game being released.

Argh, overlooked one of the many sellsheets from FFG. The Adventurers: The Pyramid of Horus is also due out in August 2011. I've added this title to the list of standalone games above.

It is probably posted in another article, but is there a reason that "The Adventurers" went from AEG to FFG?

"Underdead" – "undead" in German would be "untoten".
