I think I have found peace for now. I’m not going to worry after the plays our games get. It depends on the game and it has nothing to do with the real play time. If we play Dominion, it’s on the table for maximum 30 minutes, but if we play Earth Reborn, it can be on the table for 2-3 hours. They both get one individual play, but Earth Reborn has gotten much more play time. So as long as our heavy games get 2-5 plays and our light games get 5-10 plays, everything is OK. I was like "duh" when I realized this.

Anyway. I’ve decided to follow Thomas Büttner’s guideline: 12 months, 12 games, with the expansion exception. I’ve also added one exception of my own: if I buy games online, I’m allowed to buy more than one if the overall cost is around 60€. Games are ridiculously expensive in Finland, and when bought online they can cost 50% less. So it’s like "two for one" deal when ordering online... which doesn’t mean that I’m going to order everything online though. I like to support our local board game stores.

Speaking of local board stores... On Saturday Lautapelit.fi celebrated its 15th birthday with cake and board game deals, so of course we stopped by. The cake was great, the deals not so. OK, the deals were good, but we weren’t just interested on those games particularly. But we did wander around the store for about hour, just checking the games out. I don’t know what kind of games I like nowadays so I just wandered through the different sections, picking up games with interesting titles. We did end up buying something too: my boyfriend bought Last Night on Earth and I bought Rattus and the expansion for it.

I was actually pretty happy that I spotted Rattus from the shelf. I wanted to order it from Milan-Spiele some time ago, but then my boyfriend kindly informed me that it’s "different shade of green" which meant that the game wasn’t available right away and then I got Ghost Stories instead. But now Rattus was there and totally available for me. And right next to it was Pied Piper... I had no doubt that I wanted them both.

Long story short: we now have two new games that don’t take much time to play. We’ve already played Rattus for five times, and Last Night on Earth for two times. Rattus is fun, I think it’s more fun than I expected it to be and we haven’t even got to the expansion yet!

I play with green in case you haven't noticed my new microbadge. I like to keep my population safe in the palace, though I guess it's not a good strategy since I've lost four times out of five. My boyfriend comforted me by saying that I just learn the games slower than he does and that I start winning after I really get the game. We'll see, we'll see...

Rattus is a great little game. You'll have to update your comments once you play the expansion and share your thoughts on that as well.
