I'm not sure what to post on a blog entry, so I'll use it (this time) for a series of min-reviews on the games I played at the Lion on Monday.

So what did I play:

2 de Mayo I arrived early and as Simon was there he brought out this game. It's set in the Napoleonic Era, and I'm actually a fan of this time period (ok, I've read most of the Sharpe books and seen most of the series, and that's about it, but I really enjoy hearing about the history of it). It's a quick asymmetric game so that both sides have incredibly different tactics, the way orders are done is by writing them similar to Diplomacy. I lost, but as my first game I think I did fairly well.

Parade As more and more people were turning up we grabbed a quick filler. This was quite interesting as, with a few other fillers, you're trying not to take cards which score you points. When you play a card you have to count along the parade of cards to find which cards you take so for a little Alice in Wonderland themed filler, there was quite a bit of analysis going on as people where working out which cards they would take and where it would put them (as having the majority in a suit was kind of beneficial).

Battlestar Galactica: Exodus Expansion I'd played the original a few times and Pegasus once or twice, so I looked for the first play suggestions. Couldn't find them, so I did the obvious thing of "Throw everything in". The only things I actually saw were some of the new cards, the CAG Title, Cally and Anders. The Cylon Fleet never jumped in, I, personally, didn't get one of the new Loyalty Cards and we didn't get to 8 distance so we didn't get to the Ionian Nebula, so trauma didn't come into it. I really need to play this again to have an idea of what I think of it overall. The one thing I take away from this is that 4 player is not a good way to play BSG and Anders is not good as the only pilot.

Innovation As BSG ended fairly quickly, we grabbed this quick card civilization game. Simon remarked that I should be good at it as it was designed by the same guy as Glory to Rome (a game I enjoy) and you can tell. It felt very similar, I didn't win, though I had the most achievements with 2. Now I've got a better idea of the cards (and the rules, as we got them wrong) I'm looking forward to a second play.

And so my first blog entry thing ends. Any suggestions on how to actually do this?
