The box proof and the final counter proofs have been approved for printing. If all goes well we should have all of the components in house by late July or so.
This suggests we're going to see the long awaited reprint of For King and Country in 2011 which is great news for ASL players who have pre-ordered this on the P800 system or have recently been introduced to the series.
For many folks, their access to the system has been:
- Rulebook
- Beyond Valor
- Valor of the Guards
- ASLSKs
- Journals & Action Packs
This will up the ante and provide more than just Germans, Finns (limited), and Russians (partisan limited).
Finally, players will be able to take advantage of the Commonwealth forces. For those players who, like me, have West of Alamein, but aren't thrilled with the print quality on those older counters it's an opportunity to take advantage of the new and clearer printing.
So...let's take a look what players will get with this core module expansion:

Why Buy This?
Longtime ASL players who already own For King & Country from it's original printing may not necessarily need to buy this one. The changes between the original release and this one will appear as downloads to upgrade users who previously purchased. The changes, however, include updates to scenario balance as well as the incorporation of errata based on user feedback.
For new ASL players, this is going to be a must buy so you'll have access to the first part of the Commonwealth force OOB. Remember that there is still a forthcoming desert warfare expansion that was promised back when West of Alamein was split into 5a & 5b. Hopefully, once we see the current slate of projects near completion we'll begin hearing more about that project.
One of the other great benefits for new players is access to some must play scenarios. The Tavronitis Bridge scenario is one that appears on the must play list on the ASL Scenario Archive. Players will also be able to get their hands on revised and more balanced scenarios from long out of print The General & ASL Annual magazines. There's a lot to play through with this release.
If you've only just come to ASL you'll now have access to the 20 scenarios in For King & Country as well as the 23 scenarios in Beyond Valor in addition to the 8 downloadable scenarios from ASL Classic available on MMP's website at: (bottom of page) http://www.multimanpublishing.com/tabid/58/CategoryID/6/Prod...
A small rant...
There are many ASLers who have tracked the development and communication mis-steps of this particular module over the previous 5 years. Missed production comments, etc. who are more than willing to dismiss any deadline or projection from MMP. I would suggest that the completion of For King & Country represents something larger and more significant for MMP.
For King & Country's completion has seemed to center around the change in staffing and focus at MMP lead, in large part, by Chas Argent and his efforts to work closely with the community and provide timely answers and updates. In addition, having someone to daily guide the cumbersome process of printing through the various stages is daunting and given the many projects that are on the table at any given time, I'm reading this as evidence that MMP may be getting over the hump and is well on their way to providing more timely development and publications of their products.
We're always disappointed when products we fantasize about don't materialize in the timeline we'd envisioned. That's just human nature. I think it's important to remember that what we're seeing is MMP make the evolutionary step from hobbyists with a passion for a product line and hobby to a full fledged company with a business model and a sustainability plan. So while it's certainly easy to cast disparaging remarks towards MMP (I've done my fair share of it...), I think that it's time to look forward to a brighter future for ASL core module publication in the hands of a renewed MMP.
