Blood Bowl

We used to play Blood Bowl a lot. We even had a league going one year. I ran an Undead team - using Warhammer figures - an Undead Blood Bowl team still maintains its position on my want list.

While at XS Cargo I found a copy of the Dark Elf edition of the computer game (with 9 teams) for $6. I'm super impressed with it. But then I’m only playing the classic game - not their real time version. I'm finding it very true to the rules I remember - including the campaign rules.

It took me a few games to remember the rules enough to be dangerous. I’m playing campaign - I lost the first tourney (of 4 teams) and have won the next three cups. The last one was pretty close though; I’m playing Humans and my Ogre was sent out on the first turn of the final. But I still squeeked out a win.

The only odd thing is (possibly due to the British-ness of it) you often have to right click to confirm. That might be changed in the Legendary edition. The Legendary edition also contains 20 teams - including my Undead team.

I'm putting the Legendary Edition on my want list as is my son - who is putting the x-box version on his want list. But I'm still having great fun with this version so far.

Watch out! The computer version of Bloodbowl is great...but the Xbox version was a total flop. Slow, poor gameplay, and lacking most of the features that made the computer version great!

I have the Xbox version. It's okay, but not great. Is the AI better in the computer version? It's abysmal on Xbox. I've played around 40 or so games, and have never come close to losing. The AI is more interested in moving a guy without the ball downfield (including big basher types that can't even catch it), rather than trying to protect the current ball carrier. It also dodges multiple times every turn, often for really trivial reasons.

The Legacy version has had a few Steam sales....I picked it up cheap a while back. There is a lot more variety which is nice! Never tried the real time, just have no desire I suppose...

The PC AI seems pretty solid. It combines attacks, and has a few different types of responses depending on the teams played.

But then I am still working through the campaign.

Between the two editions of the computer game I have played the AI in almost 1000 matches. I have 3 losses and 4 ties. The first two losses were against teams without a single skill level up. Third loss was against high elves that just didn't fail at anything. I think Easy or Medium are better than Hard. At the Hard level the AI doesn't take any chances which means if you play well and leave few openings it freezes itself up. Even in medium it throws so few passes as to make interception skills almost worthless.

The only big difference in AI shift between the two editions (and not for the better IMO) was the AI started putting big guys (minotaurs especially) in the back field instead of on the line. It should have a better mechanism for going for broke. Working its butt off to get 3 spaces away from the endzone on the last turn of the game when it is down in score is a waste.

Wow. ~1000-4-3 - that's tons better than I'm doing.

So far, in my campaign, I'm 16-4-5. Of the 6 cups I've played in, I missed the playofs of the first and last, and won the four in between. But I'm playing campaign, on easy, with Humans. I'm finding leveling points and the AI enough to keep it challenging.

Legendary for PC is the best of all the versions currently available. Friends with the X-Box version regret buying it only to have to rebuy the Legendary PC version for a reasonably authentic Blood Bowl experience. You will not regret your upgrade.

in the past, all of the digital distributors (impulse, direct2drive, gamersgate, amazon) have had the legendary edition on sale for $10

I have picked up the Legendary but haven't installed it yet. Wondering if I should finish my campaign first.
