Dragonslayers - A game in the making!

Dragonslayers is a game about treasure, gold and glory - and of course slaying dragons. I sent out copies of the game to a crafty and trusty lot of playtesters. In this here blog my playtesters and I will discuss the game, how it plays out, what works well and what less, what is obviously broken and how we could change the rules to make Dragonslayers an enjoyable experience for gamers old and young!

And here's my question:

Sadly, the old cards I sent you from TGC are already horribly outdated. So would anybody be interested in printing the new cards?
If so I will prepare pdfs with all the new cards this coming week and post them here.
Just tell me if some of you would go the extra mile and have themselves a copy of the revised game printed!

Thanks and cheers,

Andi

I would, but I have no idea where to get the cardstock and if my printer could do it.

Do you perchance have spare trading cards like Magic cards? If you do, just get hold of some penny sleeves, print the cards on ordinary paper and put them inside of the sleeves on top of the Magic cards. You could even use the TGC cards for that purpose...

Could you do a very, very simplified version of the cards (i.e. as little ink and color as possible)? There's no reason to print out borders or pictures for further playtesting.

Also, another option for printing cards is to use label paper (about 25 cents a sheet) and just stick the new labels onto the old cards. It makes them slightly harder to shuffle but no worse than sleeving them.

I would also appreciate the simplified version of the cards. After all, we're not playtesting the graphics and my printer could use the rest.

I agree -- while there are still probably many changes happening to cards, a black-and-white version (with a pure white background) would save on ink on reprints. It also makes it easier to write in changes as we try them out. It's not as pretty, but for now it's probably more practical!

Will start to work on a printer friendly pdf ASAP.
Also, I will leave the Heroes' and Monster's stats empty, so you can add them yourselves with a pencil (based on the excel spreadsheet posted in this thread) so changes can be applied easily while trying to balance said stats.

On a side note: Rob, what happened to poor Isengrimm the Dwarf? Don't see him on the spread sheet. What a shame. I want him to join the party so I'll create a card for him as well! laugh

I cut all the heroes that have a "get bonus X if you have item Y" as their only power -- that's a power that takes away choices rather than adding them. I then re-used some of their names on other heroes that has been proposed, but poor Isengrim didn't get lucky. Thematically, I tried to squeeze the dwarf back in by making the berserker (+1 ATK per wound) be a dwarf.

I didn't think that hard about the hero names, and we should probably give them an overhaul to make sure they are interesting and distinctive sounding. Once we know what the powers are (that are interestingly different), we can re-think the distribution of names, races, and genders.

I suspect some of the heroes in my list are still functionally too similar to each other, and I'm keen on trying out some of the crazier-sounding suggestions that came up in these forums. I definitely want the game to feel different with different starting heroes.
