I said The devil "maid" me buy it in my last post. The quality of the game is what got me to order Tanto Cuore: Dokidoki Vacation from Japan.
The biggest reason I decided to order the Japanese-language edition of one of the expansions is because there just aren't enough action/maid cards in Tanto Cuore for a lot of play variation. I know Tanto Cuore: Expanding the House is likely to to be out by the end of the year, so I didn't want to get the Japanese version of it and have to replace it right away. Yes, I do plan on replacing it when the English version comes out.
It also adds a new type of victory point card, and they sound like a clever addition to the game system.
I ordered from AmiAmi, which is a store that appears to focus more on anime figures, but which has an English site and ships internationally. The description text of the items looks to be a straight mechanical translation, so it can be hard to understand the description of the items, but that's where sites like the BGG come in handy.
They were really easy to deal with and if I was ever going to look for a Japanese version of a game I would check with them first. It was even easier ordering from them than it was the couple of times I placed orders with German mail-tailers.
I did order another game. I was interested in Barbarossa, but I have heard that an English version is in the pipeline for sometime early next year, so I decided I would get the sequel, El Alamein. I suspect that Barbarossa might get more play, because it appears to be more of a deck building game, while looks like it might be more of a war game. There is also the British counter attacking mechanic which sounds like it will take an already-slower game and make it take longer.
I'll still likely buy Barbarossa in English and will replace the Japanese version of El Alamein with the English version, if it is something that will see play.
I had hoped that the games would be small and light enough to put into one package at the cheapest shipping rate, but they weren't and went out in two packages. The weight limit was 2 kg and it looks like that limit is what caused them to be split.
I already have my sleeves purchased and the paste-ups for El Alamein printed out and hope to have paste-ups for Dokidoki Vacation ready by the time games show up. They shipped last weekend and the site says it could take 3 to 6 weeks to make it to the U.S. I've been told it could be sooner by others who have dealt with them in the past. Here is hoping sooner is real soon!
