• On its news page, Belgian publisher Repos Production acknowledges the color troubles with 7 Wonders: Leaders – just hitting U.S. stores now – the problem being that the backs of the guild cards don't match the cards included in the base game and the back of the Rome wonder differs from that of the other wonders.

According to Repos, the solution for the guild problem is the same as the solution for those who received Age III cards with different colored backs in the second printing of 7 Wonders, that is, to visit a store and ask for a replacement deck of Age III cards. As for the Rome card, Repos is working with LudoFact to reprint the cards but is not sure how long this process will take; whenever the cards are available, they will also be available via game stores.

Founding Fathers (link) and Famiglia (link) are both now available for online play at Yucata.de.

Famiglia-related post #2: Designer Friedemann Friese has released solitaire rules (in German only) for the game on his 2F-Spiele website.

• Looney Labs has posted a long explanation for why the release dates of IceDice and Looney Pyramids have been pushed back to September 30, 2011. The short answer: The pyramids failed a safety test that they had passed on the first go-round of testing, requiring the company to modify all the packaging and (in the process) boosting the minimum age on these and all future Looney Pyramid products to 14+.

• Designer Michael Schacht loves to tinker with his designs. One result of this process is a year's worth of new maps for China in the online game section of Schacht's website. July 2011, for example, features a Scandinavian map created with help from Swede native Pontus Nilsson.

• In early June 2011, The Atlantic published an article from Scott Keyes titled "Settlers of Catan: How a German Board Game Went Mainstream", followed by a rebuttal from Rebecca Greenfield.

• Not strictly game-related, but if you haven't checked out Kirby Ferguson's video series "Everything Is a Remix" (part 1, part 2 and the just-released part 3, with part 4 still to come), you should do so, especially if you've ever beefed about such-and-such a game being nothing more than a rehash of Games A, B and F. Ferguson would likely argue, "Yes, exactly so – and that's a good thing. That's what creative people do."

• I received a note from designer Peter Olotka of Cosmic Encounter fame that players will design "Expansion Set 5" for CE on the game's Facebook page. "Expansion Set 5?!" I asked. More details on this after I speak with Olotka...

Yes, "visit a store" is vague, I admit. Asmodee had reported that it reprinted as many Age III decks as the number of games that had a problem with miscolored Age III cards. To get these replacement decks, game stores need to request them from a distributor as the distributor will receive these decks directly from Asmodee – and while some stores might proactively do this, in other cases I imagine that you'll need to ask the store to do this for you, assuming (I suppose) you bought 7 Wonders from that store in the first place.

I haven't seen the final cards myself as I played on a preproduction copy, so I don't know how severe the problem might be.

When you talk to Peter Olotka, Eric, maybe you could ask him how the FFG Dune and Borderlands redesigns are going (as if you couldn't have thought of that yourself!).

I'm going to ask when I pick up my copy of Leaders when I pick them up this week at my FLGS. If they don't have an answer I will make sure to ask at GenCon in a few weeks.

Well, I know 3 or 4 people with the first edition of 7 Wonders. Guess it looks like we are going to be hounding on our nearby game store to get a few copies of the Age III decks in. Thanks for the info, was wondering how they would handle it!

Labyrinth: The War On Terror is historically inaccurate & politically biased. It's the one popular game that violates BGG's requirements to keep politics out of gen. discussion. And yet it receives special treatment =US-centric views of this site.

The author of the rebuttal about Catan doesn't come across as a writer with a real journalism background. The ridiculous conspiracy comments about players wanting the game to remain out of the mainstream are not proven in any way and simply reflect how perhaps she and her friends view the game. It made her sound rather immature.

I have both written an email to Asmodee and have talked to my local game store about the color issue with the 7 Wonders base set and still have not had the issue resolved. The store owner has not heard anything and Asmodee quickly wrote me back originally and said that I would have new cards sent when they got them. Now this does not seem to be happening.

So after being so recently being bit by the card color problem in the base game, no one thought to check the production line for the expansion for the same problem? Are these people completely asleep at the wheel?

Problems... problems... problems... with Repos products. Now can you tell me how we can get the replacement cards if we bought the game online? And what can we do when they reply that they know nothing?

Instead of asking for proof of purchase (send a miscolored card back for example) and directly sending replacements, we'll now have to persuade/beg online retails to get the replacements for us (if they care to do so). shake

No more Repos products for me!

Yes. This is quite the turn-off. What are those of us that received this as a gift supposed to do? We are doubly screwed. This whole "solution" really ticks me off. They really do not seem to be interested in making right with their customers. And then to have the same problem with the expansion? That wreaks of neglect.

My copy of 7 Wonders was one of the 777 limited edition release that was sold at Essen last year. Yes, I got my copy of 7 Wonders - Leaders from a local store, but I need to know exactly I'm going to need to be talking with. This is not likely to work out well for those of us who buy across borders...

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter where you got the game from, just that you have to get the replacement from an actual store. They might ask for the other cards back, to prove you have the game, but they are probably getting the replacements through their distributor. It makes it much easier to manage than sending replacement cards to ALL the people, instead they just use their normal distribution channels and have a large number for store owners to give out. Plus it gets people to the store and could encourage purchasing products, all at no cost to the store itself.

Makes it easier to manage for whom? As a store owner, I haven't heard a word about this until one of my customers just asked and referred me to this thread. How is it easier for the store if they've sold copies online and have to ship a copy of the new cards to those people? What am I supposed to do when I start getting people who didn't purchase the games here asking for replacements? A little direction or forewarning would have been nice for the stores.

It might save them some hassle to distribute some of the replacement decks through the stores that sold the games but, I'm sorry, Asmodee/Repos should be taking the brunt of the replacements on themselves, like Mayfair does when they mess up the components in their games. People who bought the game shouldn't have to run around the country trying to find a store who has replacement cards and beg stores to get them in but rather should be able to contact Asmodee/Repos directly to get them.

As someone said previously, it's a pretty poor response/solution to a major issue of their own creation.

I've pre-ordered Leaders. I was disappointed with my 2nd Printing copy of 7 Wonders for several reasons, but it's entirely playable and my gaming group is eager for the expansion.

But I'll definitely think twice before getting another Asmodee/Repos product. I can't believe that, after the problems with the 2nd Printing of the base game, they screwed up again in the same way.

Got lucky with the Swedish distributor for 7 wonders. Just emailed them about the issue and I was forced to look around a bit until I found the distributor. It also took about a month but got new age I, II and III decks sent to me. I guess I will have to do the same procedure with Leaders - if I'll get it now.

By now I guess Repos will be forced to have a better support department.

Also few people will buy their newly printed stuff without reading on boardgamegeek first, so their rep is definitely tarnished.

I can state that at least they are trying to work with folks to get new components in hand, no matter what the procedure. REPOS is also being proactive and stating there is an issue at release as well. That doesn't add up to bad customer service, per se. I have made several reasonable complaints to companies in the past for replacements and received nothing.

Since it happened again with Leaders, I think it's just the classic problem of somebody (perhaps exacerbated by translation issues?) not talking to somebody else.

Lots of frustration voiced with the new 7 Wonders, but has anyone actually had the problem, do we know how widespread it is? The game hits shelves this week so I guess we'll know soon enough. Until then . . . . .

Oh, and for those who bought online, I truly mean no offense, but easy solutions to these kinds of issues are just part of what you lose to receive those deep discounts.

I actually have 7 Wonders: Leaders in hand (got it in my local store last Friday) and yes, the 3rd Age cards can be distinguished from those in the original game. It is noticeable, even when I'm shuffling the cards.

No offense, but I will take offense. I had a friend pick up 7 Wonders from Essen for one reason - the fact that Repos Production advertised that they would have extra material (it wound up being the 7 Wonders: Manneken Pis Promo) that would only available in the limited edition sold at Spiel in Essen. Of course, as we all know, it later became available through the BGG Marketplace, but no one was sure that this was going to happen beforehand. It wound up costing me a lot more money than it would have cost me to get the game in my local game store. As long as publishers put out exclusive content that a FLGS will never be able to get, there will be an incentive to order games directly from Essen.

I will again reiterate my thoughts, publishers shouldn't use game changing materials as promos, instead they should offer premiums that improve the quality of the such as better components, different artwork and such.

Sadly, this habit of Asmodee making the same error over and over again is not new. I posted about repeated printing problems with Dungeon Twister and Expansions back in 2007:

I can't believe that, after the problems with the 2nd Printing of the base game, they screwed up again in the same way.

Sadly, this habit of Asmodee making the same error over and over again is not new. I posted about repeated printing problems with Dungeon Twister and Expansions back in 2007:

Asmodee distributes 7 Wonders, but the game is produced by Repos Production. (Or rather, Repos is responsible for the game's production.)
