Erp! Forgotten to do the blog for two weeks again! Apologies to Andy (in Worcester!), who was woefully mis-informed that this was an active and regularly-updated blog!

Ben, Becky and JP this week, and in a general apathy towards playing new stuff, we pulled out a couple of old favourites (and probably the two games that I've played most of against the computer, but I don't log those plays).

Firstly, Saint Petersburg. Described by John as 'probably perfect' and described by the rest of us as 'pretty damn fine in any case', this didn't let us down. I'm not convinced that the 3-player game is as well-balanced as 2 or 4, but we made a close fight of it as usual, me hogging my favourite building upgrades, Becky reaping points early, but John picked up a couple of lucky draws with the Observatory and had that crucial extra aristocrat at game's end to pull this one down.

Eurorails is a game that we really don't play enough of, and once John had stopped breaking my precious grease pencils, he quickly picked up enough of the game to make a fight of things, exploiting his early build into the UK to maximum effect. Becky had an unusual North-South route which was paying dividends, and she threatened for a long time to run away with the game. But she hadn't banked on my marathon trek into Madrid, carrying plenty of good cargo, and it set up an incredibly tense finish. For a while it looked like the £4m that John paid Becky to use her line might be enough to swing the game, but I managed to drop off a quick load of bauxite at the last, and win by the absolute narrowest of margins: £258m to £257, with John not too far behind.

An excellent game, a classic, but also one that drains all our time out of Games Night. With Becky yawning and the bar staff aiming threatening glances in our direction, we decided to call it a night.
