Monterroso Family Gaming

While my favourite games include El Grande, Le Havre and Hansa Teutonica, I get to play those games very infrequently. That's because my favourite gaming partners are my kids (4 and 6). They love games and, while they are starting to enjoy heavier games, we still play mostly Children's Games. This blog will contain session reviews and thoughts about games that I play with my family.

This past weekend, our family - as well as several others - was invited to spend the weekend at Hawthorn Valley Farm. The proprietors are the parents of a good friend and said friend invited 10 adults and 9 children (all aged 7 and under) for a weekend stay with friends and games.

It could not have gone much better. While we were involved in several activities such as a water gun fight, soccer, slip'n'slide, golf, walks, books and some great meals, the focus for the weekend was board games.

Each family brought along a selection of games from their collection. In the end, we ended up playing 22 different games for a total of 32 plays. The games ranged from short kid games like Cranium Cadoo to strategy games such as Agricola and Hansa Teutonica.

We set up a PitchCar track, which was left assembled for use at any time. Different groups of people got together for a game of Incan Gold or Factory Fun and all the adults sat around the table for a game of Dixit Odyssey.

While, sadly, some games went unplayed (including much anticipated Troyes and 7 Wonders: Leaders), the weekend was extremely successful and we all look forward to coming back for more.
