I had what I feel was a good-not-great solution for how to bind Ideology: The War of Ideas and Imperial 2030 (see two posts ago). A birthday gift brought something better. My dear old mother gifted unto me a copy of Labyrinth: The War on Terror, 2001-? and it is perfect. The ideology becomes the Jihadists and the money becomes the Americans. Not only do the rolls work well for their respective component games, but bringing the more abstract Ideology and Imperial into sudden sharp, very personal, relief via a game that mimics real events that are rather modern and potent in their pathos helps to connect those abstract games more fully to their own concepts.
On another note, unless something horrible happens, I should be all set to begin the tournament tonight! I debated for awhile which game to begin with. Originally, it was going to be Imperial 2030. Then, I thought I should start with something else- perhaps Betrayal at House on the Hill because I'd been playing so much Imperial 2030 in preparation for review, and sometimes my excitement wanes through excessive play- something not good for an audience who's already engaged in the dull task of watching someone play a board game by themselves. Having done the review, however, and murdering the clear explanation of the game I had planned, I opted to return to the original Imperial 2030 plan in hopes that playing by the rules will help make amends for any misconceptions which may've been born from my review's flubbering womb. Anyway, I'm super excited!
