• CubeSieger Released - July 27 A developer named Rozetta Corporation has released an abstract board game iOS Universal app called CubeSieger and priced it at $1.99. The first sentence in the app's description is "From Japan!". Obviously this must be a highly calculated attempt to make me want to buy it, right? Thankfully the app comes with a Lite version which is pretty cool. It comes with the single player game and a building blocks sandbox mode of sorts.
The game itself involves moving a single pawn and adding a series of blocks to the board. The object of the game is to corner your opponent and render him immobile. The app also features online and bluetooth modes for human opponents. Game rules aside, everything in the app is rendered in 3D and seems pretty well done, to the point where I would consider simply having it on my iPad if only as a demonstrator app for showing what the iPad can do. It's that attractive looking.

• Army of Frogs Price Drop - July 27 Big Daddy's Creations' newest iOS board game app, Army of Frogs seems to be doing very well. So BDC is riding that momentum with a nice quick price drop. The Universal version has been dropped to $2.99 and the iPhone version has been dropped to just $0.99. I guess you should get it quick because time's fun when you're having flies. Ribbit.

• Dice Soccer Released - July 28 I won't claim to know that much about this one. What I can tell you is that it is developed by LambdaMu Games, it's iOS Universal, its theme is soccer, it would appear to have you roll dice to play, and it is free. Seems board gamey to me, so I list it here. What do you have to lose?

• Lead Wars Updated - July 29 Now I can tell you a bit more about this one. DemonStudios released this little iOS Universal game app back in November 2010. I discovered Lead Wars for myself just a couple months back and kept looking for an excuse to mention it on the blog. I'm not much of a reviewer, so I felt I had to just wait for some news about it to happen. Well it finally did. Lead Wars has been updated to version 1.2.
The game itself is nothing less than a loving attempt to recreate for iOS devices a version of that old Paper-and-Pencil war game you might have played as a kid. Y'know, the one where you draw tanks and planes and then you hold the pencil upright then try to flick it out in one direction to create a line that "shoots" your opponent? Well this is that game. It is very well done with a dizzying array of options and settings that lie just beneath the simple gameplay. There are attention to detail flourishes like scribble animated explosions and spit-filled verbal sound effects that sound like they are coming from the very mouth of the programmer himself!
It's all really just too cute and fun, though the pencil sliding is very much in the vein of a dexterity game and does take some getting used to. The app brings back fond memories of drawn out binder paper wars passed back and forth to make a boring afternoon in study hall much better.
Anyway, I'm just glad I finally get to bring it to your attention. If it sounds interesting to you, then I recommend checking it out. It's for iOS Universal and priced at $2.99. Because I like this game, I'm not only going to quote what's new in version 1.2, I'm gonna just go ahead and list all of its features as well:

• Disc Drivin' Updated - July 29 Continuing this week's theme of loosened subjectivity, I'll also mention an update to one of my all time favorite iOS board game apps. Pixelocity has released another update for their Pitchcar/Carabande-inspired app, Disc Drivin'. Like some of the best iOS board game apps Disc Drivin' is easily approachable, instantly likeable, and full-featured. And most of all it doesn't require a huge investment of really anything to pay you back in fun.
The latest update features 3 new tracks and the nasty little "flipper" obstacle that instantly propels you into the air. Thankfully Pixelocity has placed them in strategic locations on the tracks designed to get you ahead of the competition. But if you hit them wrong you'll be launched into dead space and suffer the usual spectacular atomizing death of your turn. Here's the official word:
