There were 6 of us in total. We started with just 3 of us, and played two games of Race for the Galaxy, with a game of Mastermind in the middle while Sami settled Robert. James then arrived, so we played Escalation! while waiting for the next arrival. Richard then arrived, but Marion was delayed, so we played The Bucket King while waiting for her. Then we finally were ready to start the evening proper.

We split into two tables, playing a new Feld game on each table – The Castles of Burgundy downstairs while upstairs we tried Strasbourg – a new game we’ve been lent to try out. I was extremely impressed with Strasbourg – in fact it’s gone on my buy list (just need Sami to try it now to agree!). After that we pulled out Merchants of Amsterdam, a game that doesn’t come out very often. This was quite fun, although it had an odd ending as on the last turn Marion was holding 5 egg timers and her three normal cards, meaning all the last events happened in rather a rush. James won, so then suggested The Hanging Gardens, a game I enjoy but we don’t play very often. We then had about twenty minutes until the other table finished their second game, Fresco, so I suggested Sternenhimmel, which James won easily by winning first or second place on every constellation except one. We then joined together for a 6 player 7 Wonders to finish with.

Quote of the evening definitely goes to Marion for “I’ve only played one game I know tonight, and I didn’t exactly know that one!”.
