We started rather later than usual, due to a school BBQ, but Marion came along afterwards to play a few games. We introduced her to The Castles of Burgundy first, as it was by the same designer as a few other games she’s liked. Then we managed to do the impossible, and break Vegas Showdown – something I’ve never seen in any of the previous 78 plays. Marion had nearly finished her board, Sami was also running a bit low on space, and I had a bizarre set-up where I could only buy things that entered from the blue door – and two Table Games and a High Rollers Room came up – neither Marion or I could place them if we bought them, and Sami didn’t really want them, so we all publicised for a couple of turns – as this was near the end, this put us all on about 70 cash! Then Sami bought one of the buildings, only to get a rise in price for the other two, so they took even longer to vanish from the tableau; meanwhile the only person who could ever buy anything was the person in first place (or very occasionally the first eligible to buy a building, if someone didn’t have the pre-requisites) – that person just buying whatever it was for 52 cash. Made for a very odd end-game, and really hurt Sami’s position! We finished with a quick 7 Wonders.
