Dragonslayers - A game in the making!

Dragonslayers is a game about treasure, gold and glory - and of course slaying dragons. I sent out copies of the game to a crafty and trusty lot of playtesters. In this here blog my playtesters and I will discuss the game, how it plays out, what works well and what less, what is obviously broken and how we could change the rules to make Dragonslayers an enjoyable experience for gamers old and young!

Hey Jack!

Here you find the new, printer friendly Dragonslayers cards:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/3291/printer-friendly-...

If you want you can help us playtesting!

Cheers,

Andi

P.S.: I have shamefully neglected Dragonslayers over the past couple of months, due to other projects such as Panzer Clash taking priority, but it will be one of my new year's resolutions to concentrate more on DS!

may I ask, what was wrong with the original game? (having not played it, but I did want to PnP it, which is how I came across the rewrite)

We changed a couple of things including giving Monsters Levels I to III, limiting the number of years and changing how you visit locations etc. We also reworked most of the actual cards, changing the Heroes and Treasures, doing away with Events alltogether (replacing them with Locations) and so forth. Hence, there is no use in printing the old PnP files anymore. Hope that is not a problem...

Hello Jack!

I put it like this in my first post on this blog:

What you should be looking for while playtesting:

1.) Tell me with how many players you played it. Try it solo, 2, 3 and 4 players if possible.
2.) Game length. Is it too long or too short to be fun?
3.) What works well?
4.) What works not so well, is imbalanced or even broken?
5.) What is/was fun and what not?
6.) Can you think of any rules changes that would improve the game
without adding a lot more complexity?
7.) Can you think of any better solo or multiplayer rules variants?

Besides these questions feel free to report anything back to me that came to mind while playing. Any suggestions and feedback are more than welcome!

Thanks a lot in advance!!

I can only play this single player at the moment.

I'm all set and reading the rules but i am blocked without having started. At the descrption of what i have to do, i read the list of cards that i can draw, but the first one, location, puzzles me. "Upon revealing it, the leader may decide to visit any location". What does that mean? Do i keep the location i reaveal and place it somewhere, and place the subsequant locations near it and travel to any one i chose on revealing another location?

I'll read this blog to see if that has already been answered

Hey Joel!

Thanks for your question. To my understanding it works like this:

When you reveal a certain location you are allowed to visit it at once. If you do you may use the services provided there, if you don't you keep revealing cards until you reveal another location (which you may or may not visit), or a monster which you have to or may figth (depending on the current year and the monster's level)...

I hope I was able to clear the confusion. If not, please ask again and I will try to rephrase...

So i keep the location face up on the table if i don't want to visit it now, and i can come back to it if i draw another location card?"

hi again. just a few more thoughts after a few more attempts at the game

I want to evade. I guess i just put the card back in the discard pile?

What do i do with a slain monster card? Is the card purged, or recycled into the deck?

Alchemist's Lab location card rings different bells. I ought to be able to buy potions, not weapons. Perhap's call it something else.

What do i do with a location card once i've used the services? The location card mechanic is still very hazy in my mind.

Terrain cards giving +X Att to both Heroes and Monsters seem redundant, as they favour both in the same way and change nothing to the outcome. unless i have missed something.

At the end of the first playthrough of the deck, so at the end of year one, i have all the spells. Is this the desired effect?
