My opinions on games from my point of view as a fairly casual gamer, a Christian, and a female. YMMV.

Ticket to Ride: House Variations

We have played hundreds (if not already into the thousands and it's feeling like thousands!) of games of Ticket to Ride. I actually leave the state once a month to have TTR weekend marathons with friends! Since we have played the heck out of the game, here are some variations we have found useful to keep the game interesting by making it harder.

Ticket to Ride: Europe:
- No stations

Ticket to Ride
- Everyone must keep one coast to coast ticket.

Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries
- No 3 cards equals a locomotive option.

Ticket to Ride: Switzerland
- Remove country cards.

For any version:
- Each player must keep one long distance ticket.
- Each player must keep the first 3-5 tickets they are dealt.
- Super evil: Pick three of the first five tickets dealt to you and then pass them to the next player to the left. Everyone starts off with these three forced tickets.

You should log your games so we would know exactly how many times you've played. Several hundred is possible, a thousand is unlikely...

Sorry, I got carried away! I am not in the thousands, but it feels that way. I have played the iPad version almost every day since it was released, and most nights I'm getting in 3-5 games. I tend to play the Swiss map with my friends on the iPad and we play fast, and with no set-up time, the games are super speedy (20-30 minutes). Mathematically, I've probably played 500-600 games since January. I don't log, and they are almost never ranked, because it's just me and my friends venting about our day while we play. And honestly, that's one of the reasons I have become addicted to BGG right now, because I'm nearing burnout and needed to find new games!

Your Nordic variant is very hard. I know this because we missed that rule when playing and I had a huge hand of cards trying to get locos. Needless to say, I lost the game.

Yes I think a lot of people think the Nordic version is hard because they forget that odd rule!

Ys we play the TTR US with the expansion, in a Mega game. It feels like a must buy for me just to get the full sized cards. When I play online I will sometimes play Big Cities or 1910 version, but in the real game we never take the time to sort out the cards that way. We also play Europe with the expansion pack, but we rarely use the depots and warehouses, although those can be a huge help if you use them right!

If you want even more variation you can try out my Ghost Train variant. It seems to be appreciated by some.

Rewritten rules: Ghost Train Variant

Original thread: TTR Ghost Train Variant for 2 player USA games

It was originally designed for 2-player games but has been used successfully with 3 as well.

Do the PC/iPad versions tell you # of games played? BSW and JSP embarrassingly tell me how many hundreds of games I've played of Dominion and 7 Wonders...

Sadly, the iPad only logs the number of ranked games you have played.
