Another boardgame award to look out for. This one is pretty important because it is an international one and the winners will be announced during the Spiel 2011 in Essen (where the Royals will be heading too of course). The nominees includes many old favourites and lots of gamers’ games, such as Dominant Species but also a handful of underdogs such K2, which we did not expect to find on the list.

Go have a look yourself and tell us what you think!

Definitely the most interesting crop of prize nominees I've seen this year. K2 seems oddest when placed alongside Vinhos, Dominant Species, and the pick that surprised me most, London.

I really like that the selections are so eclectic, as they're a much closer approximation of what I actually play than the Spiel des Jahres or (heavens forfend) Origins, but it seems like over a few iterations of a similarly scattered bunch of selections, the real question will become "do we like brainburning heavy games, or 7 Wonders?" and the answer will always be the same.
