Warhammer Fantasy
By Cardboard Carnage

(Originally published on the Cardboard Carnage Blog on 06/07/2010)

I recently read up a lot on this new role playing game and have decided it was worth making a purchase. I have been a Dungeons & Dragons player since the early 80's, and while I love 4th edition, it feels more like a tactical combat board game and less like a "ROLE PLAYING" game... The joke has been made it is more a "ROLL playing game" (ROLL the dice and not ROLE play), so I have watched the video on the Fantasy Flight Games website and also the 5-part seminar, and the game seems like it is perfect to give me back a feeling of focusing more on ROLE playing, so I am going to sell off some of my old D&D books and purchase the Core Set.

My experience in the Warhammer world is extensive. I have played the table top game and read the books for well over 10 years, but my experience with the Role Playing world minimal. First edition was something I never played, but did have a chance to flip through the books from time to time back in the days of owning the gaming store. Second edition was something I purchased each and every book for, and read them, but only played a little. I did run through a few short games with one of my boys, and I did role up a few characters with my D&D group, but interest in playing never seemed to catch on, but this new Third edition looks like it has some promise, so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope.

I haven't played the game yet, or even own the core set, so I can't really speak much of it right now, but it did get me thinking of some of my favorite moments in role playing, and I thought I'd start to share them here. So I am going to begin "Great Moments in Role Playing" in the coming weeks. Mostly focusing on stories I recall from my three gaming groups. My High School group in the 80's, the first group I had when I moved to Florida in the early 90's, and then one of my favorite gaming groups before moving away from Florida a few years ago.

Stay tuned!!!!
