I built a lightbox for shooting component photos. It's a simple cardboard box, with windows covered in baking paper to get soft light and a white paper to give a smooth, solid background. Then just add light, put stuff in it and shoot!

Here's some photos I took for my review of Chromino:

Building the box was easy and it sure helps taking nice component photos. The white background makes the components pop out. I also have a black paper, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. A black background might make colourful components stand out even more.

Some folks might find these photos a bit boring, but I like crafting them. How should I represent the game in, say, three photos?

These are also fairly simple to shoot, as the situation is very controlled. The light is easy, I have a tripod so I can use long exposures to make sure I can use smaller apertures to get things as sharp as I want... Getting a really good result takes some post-processing, where I can adjust the cropping, make sure the whites are white (camera can get almost correct, if I adjust white balance by shooting an empty box first, but it's easier to just shoot and adjust on computer) and the colours are tasty and so on.

How about some photos of the lightbox itself?

In a future blog post =) I've got photos of the building process, so I'll do a small DIY guide at some point.
