Played The Great Fire of London 1666 with my wife and 7yo son. Any game my wife participates in tends to lack aggression and that was the case here - it all seemed rather slow moving for the first half of the game - every time the fire burst out of Pudding Lane it was quickly quashed by friendly co-operating landlords and firefighters (possibly with arms linked, singing "We Shall Overcome".) Things got nastier once the fire broke through into the city and was raging on a couple of fronts - then my 7yo demolished Aldgate which both my wife and I were charged with protecting. Final scores were close and my wife declared the game to be "OK" but "not her favourite" so she may not play it again soon..
Next we tried Glenn Drover's Empires: The Age of Discovery for the first time. I think I got it right, it felt a little clumsy for such a highly-ranked game and I have to read up on the endgame scoring before we play again, but both my sons had a good time. It'll be a weekend-only game due to its complexity (for a seven-year-old) and I imagine we'll return to it before the month is out.
