• In July 2011, Italian publisher Nexus Games announced that it was taking over distribution of the Wings of War series of games created by designers Andrea Angiolino and Pier Giorgio Paglia from Fantasy Flight Games in North America and elsewhere.
Then Nexus Games went belly up later that same month, putting the future of the series in doubt.
Now, new Italian publisher Ares Games – which has some personnel in common with Nexus Games and which earlier picked up War of the Ring – has announced that it will relaunch the game series under the title Wings of Glory. From the press release: "Wings of Glory will be published with a new rulebook, while maintaining compatibility with the previous Wings of War products already in the market." More from the press release:
Quote: Initially, Ares Games will focus on developing new miniatures for the game, but also plans to release new starter sets.
The first Wings of Glory products to be released will be four airplanes for the WWII game series: the American P40, the Russian Yak-1, the Japanese Ki-61 and the Italian Re-2001 Falco. Ares Games will publish a Starter Set with these four models, containing the introductory rules and all other elements needed to start play. The complete schedule of the next releases will be announced soon. • German publisher Pegasus Spiele has announced that as of September 1, 2011 it has taken over all distribution and communication responsibilities for fellow German publisher eggertspiele from eggertspiele's former business partner AMIGO Spiel. As a result, Pegasus is co-publishing the Spiel 2011 release Santiago de Cuba from designer Michael Rieneck with eggertspiele, with the game first being available at the eggertspiele booth at Spiel.
• And speaking of Santiago de Cuba, Gryphon Games will release the English version of the game in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
• Rules are now available for Ghost Stories: Black Secret in English, German & French on the BGG game page.
• Similarly, rules for Shitenno from Ludonaute are available on the BGG page in English, French, German and Spanish. (A designer diary about Shitenno from Cédric Lefebvre will run on BGG News on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011.)
• Hans Van Tol at The Game Master has announced that the first 250 copies of Fortuna – now due out at the end of the September 2011 – preordered will receive a special set of marbleized dice, with an extra discount on the game if preordered by September 30, 2011.
• In addition to running a Kickstarter project for the new game Sunrise City, Clever Mojo Games has launched its first expansion for Alien Frontiers on Kickstarter, too. In less than three days, Alien Frontiers: Factions has reached its target level, but the project runs through October 2 for those who want to lock in early and possibly pick up a bonus Faction Pack #1 at the same time.
