continuing our run of first-play games we took a look at The Mines of Zavandor this afternoon. Auction games never used to do it for me but I seem to have developed a thing for them recently. This one is pretty much all auction and free gem-trading between players. I can see that there's a good game there though it may not be well suited to my seven-year-old son, and is probably better with the full complement of four players (we played with three today)

Afterwards we checked out Famiglia and liked it a lot. Easy to teach and quick to play - the theme was a bit lost on my 7yo but he appreciated the artwork. Another great little two-player game to slip into my bag when we're out and about..
