Ok , so here is a simple project , that almost anyone can do , and ads in a great terrain piece : A RADIO ANTENNA !
Sorry about the crappy pictures , I am working on a better phot rig , but it will take a bit of time .
This is more of a “moding” project than a “scratch build” ., so there wont be a long detailed explanation like I have done for most of my other projects .
First thing you need is a plastic toy construction crane . They come in play sets available at most toy retailers .
These are assembled , for the most part , using screws . So unscrew the top and remove the crane arm and assembly . Next clip the gantry away and sand the edges .
Now its going to be a bit top heavy , so to expand the base , I cut a square of my favorite material , PVC FOAM BOARD , but you can use a material more to your likeing . It has been cut to the size of a single square . I plan to paint this like cement .
Next I cut a slightly smaller square of thin styrene sheeting , and glued it to the top of the PVC square . This will form a base plate for the tower , and will be painted up in the same dark gray as the tower .
Next I glued the tower to the plasticard , wha la , you have a perfect radio antenna . If you wanted to ad in anchor wires and such you could , I chose not to , because I find such details tend to get caught on things during transport or storage , so they end up being more of a hindrance than they’re worth , so I left them off .
Now its ready to paint .
Once you have painted it , let it dry , then seal it with a good coat of Krylon clear coat , let that dry and they hit it with a thin coat of Testor’s dull coat lacquer to kill the gloss , and you are done !
