The time has come: this evening I shall be handing over the completed manuscript, plus all of the photos and rough art for Dux Bellorum's publisher, Osprey Publishing, to start preparing the final version from.

I've kept within the contracted word count but have managed to include all of the rules I wanted to, and have hopefully come up with a few good ideas for presentation to make the game as accessible as possible. As the game isn't complicated I'm hoping it might become a good starter wargame for the uninitiated, helped by the small number of miniatures you can get going with.

Now I get a short break to actually play some other games in before any editorial queries and the proofs come back to me. Publication should still be on for mid-2012.

First games up to celebrate with? I'm hoping to squeeze in some Song of Blades and Heroes and Memoir '44 over the coming weekend, to have a break from testing (and trying to spot grey areas in) my own rules.

So a big sigh of relief from me today, and now I just wait for those queries to come rolling in . . .

Congratulations; I'm always happy when an MS goes off and I can forget all about it for awhile. Memoir is a fun game--seems to strike the right balance of granularity for WW2--all of the elements are there but none are overwhelming or game-winners.

Much looking forward to seeing these rules in 2012!

Hi Bob, thanks. I celebrated with a beer or two last night. I know there will still be a lot of work to do preparing the game, and then when it publishes too, but that's one of the big steps out of the way.

I think Memoir 44 is a cracking game; I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it presents all sorts of command challenges for me, and when it goes wrong I just blame my cards and/or dice

Will keep everyone up to date with Dux Bellorum progress!

I look forward to see the game in print, I've been looking for a good alternative to WMA, I think Osprey have the infrastructure and the motivation to really push this game forward (something games workshop seemed to lack).

Thanks! I think there's lots of scope to own many Ancients rules (well that's my excuse!); I think that Dux Bellorum has a few mechanisms which make it truly different, so hopefully players will find it's got that little something different to pull it out from the other rules available. I would say that of course, I know.

If you've not done so yet and fancy finding out more, trawl back through my blog and have a look at the Leadership Points entry, that's the part of the game that I think makes for a real challenge (in a good way).

With Osprey, I'm looking forward to them publishing my game with their great paintings included, and also a properly bound book that doesn't fall apart when I use it in games (WMA shed pages left, right and centre).
