Monterroso Family Gaming

While my favourite games include El Grande, Le Havre and Hansa Teutonica, I get to play those games very infrequently. That's because my favourite gaming partners are my kids (4 and 6). They love games and, while they are starting to enjoy heavier games, we still play mostly Children's Games. This blog will contain session reviews and thoughts about games that I play with my family.

This weekend was a rare instance when our family did not have anything specifically planned. We went to church and skating at the Rink in the Square. After lunch, I thought we would play a game. The kids have been asking for The World Cup Game repeatedly and a lazy Sunday afternoon would be perfect.

However, the kids ended up playing outside with the neighbours. When Kyler (4) came back inside, he did finally ask for a game. And that's how the avalanche of gaming goodness was unleashed...
Over the next few hours - from mid-afternoon to bedtime, the family played all of the following games:

SWAT! - Kyler's friend John (4) joined us to swat some bugs.
Yin Yang - While I cleaned up in the kitchen, Kyler and Danica (6) played this game that we received from The Dice Tower as a prize in their Secret Santa draw.
Chess - Danica was busy elsewhere, and Kyler asked how to play Chess. For the first time, I sat down and explained the pieces to him.
The World Cup Card Game 2010 - The card version of the World Cup Game can be played in nice small chunks. We started a new tournament and played the Group A and Group B games before supper.
Viva Topo! - With dinner in the oven, the kids asked Mom to join in for a game of "the other cheesy mouse game"
This Big! - While Mom got supper to the table, a quick game of trickery was called for.
10 Days in the Americas - While I took Kyler for a bath, Mom showed Danica where we had gone on vacation while playing a couple of trips around the Americas themselves.
The aMAZEing Labyrinth - Danica was busy getting cleaned up so Kyler pulled out one of his favourites to play with Dad.
Chicken Cha Cha Cha - We realized that it was still early enough, and the kids asked for one last game before bedtime.

Yes! What a great day!

Sunday night happens to be the regular night for the KW Gamers, so I finished off a great gaming Sunday with games of 20th Century and 7 Ages.
