I don't have anything to say, other than...
For the month, I played 17 different games a total of 59 times and three expansions a total of nine times. Five of the games were new to me and none of the expansions were new.
Here are the games I played.
1955: The War of Espionage Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: New to me
Quick and fun card game I would like to play again.
7 Wonders Times Played: 2 Last Month Played: 7/11
Expansion Played: Leaders all of the games.
With Nico not being around on Saturdays, this is only getting played when I bring it.
Ascending Empires Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: New to me
I was expecting more from this, but it really is no more than a flicking combat game with a whole bunch of convoluted rules which disguises the real goal of the game.
Catacombs Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: New to me
Another flicking game, but this one was better.
Hilary and I played the heroes and defeated Mike's Gorgon with one hero having one life yet.
Mike liked this more than I did, but I would be willing to play it again whenever he and Hilary want to play.
Dominion: Seaside Times Played: 2 Last Month Played: 7/11
Expansion Played: Prosperity (x2).
Two games mixing only Seaside and Prosperity. The first game was a lot of fun but the second one drug on a little because we just didn't have any cards which gave extra actions and a lot of expensive cards. It was still fun, but not as fun as the first one.
Dwarf King Times Played: 2 Last Month Played: New to me
The first time I was able to play this was with four players and then I played it again later that day with two other people. The first group liked the game. The second game wasn't as well received because Mike forgot that Hilary was not a trick-taking fan. From this limited experience, I suspect it works best with four players but will hold my opinion for a few playings.
It's a pretty basic trick-taking game, with three suits of 13 cards. Each hand, a special card is drawn and added to the mix. Then the player which is dealt the Five of Knights (the blue five) gets to pick one of two scoring rules drawn from a stack of 20 possible pairs of rules. The round is played out with players needing to follow suit, if possible, and the highest card of the led suit wins the trick.
A lot of the scoring rules are opposite of each other, such as scoring points for each face card and ace, plus scoring for each blue card OR losing points for the same cards. You play seven hands, with a different special card and scoring rule for each hand.
It's not as chaotic as the tremendously fun Rage!, and I suspect people who get serious about their card games might not enjoy it, but it you are looking for a light tricking taking game for social situations, you might want to look at this.
Elder Sign Times Played: 6 Last Month Played: 8/11
* The first game was a three-player game which we beat Azathoth by collecting enough Elder Signs, because that's is the only way you can beat him.
* Then there was a four-player game which we beat that yeller bastich, Hastur, also by collecting enough Elder Signs.
* And the three of us took on the Shubbster (Niggurath, that is) and managed to beat him as the monsters were filling the streets of Arkham.
* Game four was me teaching the game to Michael and Kevin, and we beat Azathoth.
Then something happened. Mike realized we had been playing the game wrong. Once a task was completed, we were collecting the dice we set aside for failing on a roll and adding them back to the die pool. So the next time I went to his house to play games, we gave it a try with the correct rules.
* As the stars aligned to prevent the investigators from an unfair advantage, but that didn't mean that Hastur would be able to defeat them.
The game is definitely more challenging with the correct rules and spells are now much more useful.
Eminent Domain Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: 8/11
I decided to try war for settling and then a produce/consume strategy. I failed miserably as Rob managed to colonize a bunch of planets and won by getting his VPs from those. Mike was a close second and I stunk up the rear.
I really hope one of the Saturday guys buys this because I would like to play it some more, though not enough to actually want to haul the box around.
Fürstenfeld Times Played: 2 Last Month Played: New to me
Michael, Kyle, and I played a couple of three player games and none of us had played before.
The first game was the basic game and Kyle focused on getting his palace built the earliest and ran away with the game.
The second game we tried the advanced game and Michael misunderstood the rule about building the palace cards in the specific slots and thought he had to build them in the exact order. It worked out that he had his three-production slots on the bottom of his Fürstenfeld as he was cycling through his deck again, and that meant he ended up having lots of cash on hand as the last palace cards came up and he won.
I really liked the game, but wonder if the luck of the individual decks might trump the best player more often than skill would let the best player win. I'm glad I traded for it.
King of Tokyo Times Played: 14 Last Month Played: 8/11
Lots of dice and people claiming to be the king of the hill, only to be knocked down when the next game starts.
Malifaux Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: 8/11
I need to remember to try and keep some of my forces together when playing. Too often I rush out and splinter them, which might work for the attack monsters, but the support figures need to stay together to swarm the enemy.
This month Kyle decided to try out playing McMourning and his undead scum. I split up the forces and he made pretty easy work of them, though Lilith almost managed to kill McMourning before she was done in.
Quarriors Times Played: 5 Last Month Played: 8/11
They were all three-player games. We aren't experiencing the first-player advantage that some have been reporting and have been enjoying the game.
Ra: The Dice Game Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: 6/11
This was a rarity -- a three-player game of this! Mike, Hilary, and I played and it was a close game, but Mike ended up pulling away with the win. I blame my unlucky die rolling for this travesty of justice.
Race for the Galaxy Times Played: 5 Last Month Played: 8/11
Expansion Played: The Gathering Storm.
Two games against Michael and Kyle, with Kyle winning both of them, then three games against just Michael with him winning them all. I so used to be a decent player...
Sentinels of the Multiverse Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: 8/11
Bunker, Haka, and Fanatic ended up in the primeval Insula Primalis where they fought Citizen Dawn's organization, but were overwhelmed by her organization and failed to stop her plans.
It was really hard to get any of the really good powers set-up for Bunker. But it was still fun, though I kept wishing someone else had played Legacy because of his power boost and assistance abilities.
I'm still not sure whether or not I would buy this, but I did try to get one of the copies in the Labor Day math trade, but failed.
Snow Tails Times Played: 1 Last Month Played: 8/11
A quick race which I should have won, but I failed.
Thunderstone Times Played: 13 Last Month Played: 8/11
Expansions Played: All the available ones were in the mix for all the games.
This is being played almost exclusively as a two-player game, and none of these were exceptions.
