Bobby's Games

I will be posting monthly recaps of my gaming which I have been doing in GeekLists. I'll also be commenting on games on occasion, though I can tell you that I will be behind the curve because I just don't get to play the new games as soon as some people do.

Last week, we did play Viva Pamplona! and it went over fairly well with the new players, though it wasn't a hit. Thank goodness that Kevin Whitmore reminded me that the start player should rotate each turn, as that is as close to a "must" variant any game has. Nico asked who the designer was because it in some ways reminded him of That's Life!, which is another Kramer game.

This week I am going to bring along Rüdiger Dorn's Louis XIV. It's the first of the Alea medium boxes and would have made a nice addition to the big box line if was chosen to be added there. It's an influence/area-control game which has a "flavor" similar El Grande.

I haven't played it in about four years, which is way too long for this to go neglected. I dragged it out on occasion, but haven't really tried to get it played. That changes this week. Will I be successful? Will we have five or two people available to play all day? We'll see...
