Had my BFF over today for some games:

Nightfall: NF5

First up was a game mixing Nightfall, Nightfall: Martial Law, all the available promos and the latest set in testing: NF5. There's a lot of new stuff going here that unfortunately can't be discussed, but we had a blast!

We played to 30 wounds and the game took a solid hour to play! Not that we weren't attacking; I had some epic attacks of 12, 17 and even one for 38 !!! There's just a lot of new stuff in the game that when used right can prevent these kinds of floods from breaking through. Testing on NF5 is coming to an end very soon and then off to the printers. Nearly time to start working on NF6!

cool

Nightfall: Blood Country

Just a quick blurb here: Blood Country showed up at my place today! The box is a LOT smaller then the standard box, as we're not including starters or wounds and the box isn't intended to hold your whole collection this time around. Pretty nifty if you ask me.

Here's a few shots of all 3 existing sets sleeved and placed in the base game's box:

Sorry, not displaying any pics of the Blood Country box yet. I'd prefer that the first people to get their hands on it have that privilege.

Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

After playing Nightfall and messing with the Blood Country box, we got in a game of The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. We played using the basic starter decks, no shadow cards in combat and the first quest: The Passage Through Mirkwood. The game went really smoothly and Daniel loved the game, so we decided to play a couple more. The 2nd game we swapped out into different starter decks and went after the 2nd quest. We were shocked that the very first creature in play was tougher then the boss of the 1st quest! I had my threat maxed out pretty fast with Daniel following shortly behind me. We attempted it a 2nd time using different decks and slowly but surely made our way through, barely winning after a long match.

For those that would like to read more, here's the details for each play:
Play #1, Play #2 and Play #3.

Awesome stuff, David! I'm very excited to see Blood Country and the idea that your opponent is holding off some big attacks is cool!

It was sick... I had roughly 10 minions in play to total that 38 attack and just KNEW he had the cards in his hand that would let him stop it... BAH!

Now this is good news! I can't wait to see what's in that set, and we still have Blood Country and NF4 to get through in the mean time!

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question, but because in that brief moment when the coin is in the air, you suddenly realize what you were hoping for.

Was tons of fun! Hopefully we can do some more play testing for Nightfall next Saturday.
I wish i could spoil some of the new additions >.< I'm really excited about them myself.

I personally feel that the NF4 and 5 (NF5 being my favorite) sets add so many more dynamic mechanics to the last few releases, it makes it feel so much more refreshing (Especially the new starter cards). Really brings alive some of the cards most of us have probably abandoned in favor of the new ones if you've had several play thrus like my family has had.

---

I have to comment on this LOTR set. It was SO enjoyable!

I think it managed to accomplish the feel of what Thunderstone tries so hard to do (But in my opinion falls short).

The decisions are not just a drudge to get through the dungeon as in thunderstone and always playing by yourself (even if with a partner. Multiplayer solitaire anyone?) LOTR really requires help from your partner, and requires decisions to be made together in order to accomplish the goals.

Lastly, i love that the win condition can change and forever expand (not just Victory Points) and bring with it an all new experience in playstyle even with the same preconstructed decks.

I've got more to go on about this game, but i'll stop there

Thanks David! Looking forward to next week.
