Bill, Ben and Becky almost started a game of Biblios when Anne and Sam turned up. Then we almost started a game of Eketorp when Ian turned up.

Having thought we actually ought to play something rather than almost starting it, we divided the six-hander into two groups of three, Becky relishing the opportunity to play Stone Age. As it turned, she didn't quite as much relish being ground to dust by Anne, playing a hut-heavy strategy.

Meanwhile, Bill, Sam and Ben took to Artus, along with a lot of head-scratching, deep thought and 'no-I-don't-want-to-do-that-can-I-take-that-back?'ing). After some initial jostling for the best seats, Sam landed something of a coup de gras by scoring 53 points with his 'opposite sign' card. Having effectively lapped the pair of us, he went on to win highly convincingly.

The Stone Age players convinced us that they were only going to be another five minutes, and they shortly upgraded this to ten minutes after Becky and Ian both miserably failed to engineer a quick finish. We engaged in a couple of swift games of Polarity, offered some alleged strategic advice to the cavemen, and eventually re-convened for some six-player madness to finish the night.

First to hit the final table was TransAmerica - a map which both Bill and I find distinctly preferable to the alleged 'improvement' of TransEuropa. Sam threatened to play the perfect game by winning the first two rounds, but capitulated to Anne on the final round, conceding six points to finish next to last.

We finished off with Bandu and some tower-building silliness. My ambitious strategy of passing round the 'easy' pieces almost worked but I was beaten out to second place by an impressive five-block-high structure from Ian, as Becky learned the folly of accepting the egg and the eggcup. Becky insisted we randomise seating in the second game: Sam and Ian went out with only a couple of pieces on board and Anne proceeded to clean up myself and Becky. In fact, Anne managed to win at everything she played tonight: we really ought to see her more often.
