Pound for pound, the amoeba is the most vicious predator on Earth!

In case you did not see, it I wrote a review for Urban Sprawl: Urban Chaos. What is particularly interesting about this game is that even though I ultimately decided it is not a design I can appreciate, it has not diminished my enthusiasm for future Chad Jensen designs at all. There were enough great ideas in Urban Sprawl that I genuinely liked that I expect I will be an early adopter of his next eurogame at well, particularly since he said he would try to keep the chaos level of the design to a manageable level.

The next game I will be looking at is Colonial: Europe's Empires Overseas. I just got my copy today, and I expect that I will be playing it at least once tomorrow, and probably some more this weekend. Expect a review as soon as I think I have figured out the game, and various blog posts as I make my journey. In the meantime, you can check out two strategy articles I wrote based on reading the rules. It will be entertaining to see how right or wrong I was!

This past weekend I attended my favorite Florida-based board game convention: Mike's Mini Meet X. It was quite a bit of fun, and I got to play a nice mix of old and new favorites. I’ve also been made aware of a brand new convention that will be hitting Orlando starting in July. It looks to potentially be a pretty phenomenal one and I cannot wait to check it out and see if I have a new favorite. The shorter drive time will certainly be nice.

More on all of these subjects soon!

I will be exploring Colonial and Vanuatu this Saturday. I'm eager to find out how our opinions compare.

Both sound promising, and little else does. I have copies of Drum Roll, Alba Longa, and Tournay coming. I'm less enthusiastic about those games' prospects for my particular tastes.

I am jealous that you already have Vanuatu. I still am really looking forward to checking it out, particularly considering how promising initial responses to it are. I admit I am not all that eager about the remaining games on your list. Why did you order them?

I really enjoyed your review of Urban Sprawl. Towards the end you commented that you might make a blog post of the more "chaotic" cards that you would consider removing from the decks to reduce the chaos. Just wanted to see if you would follow up on that, I think it would be interesting. Thanks!

laugh What a good question.

I order whatever rare Essen games I can get my hands on when I find a price that seems right. By packing enough games into an order, I can get the things I really want for a price I can afford. This year it has been particularly hard to get ahold of anything, so I grab what I can. I'll decide whether to break the shrink or just sell them off later.

Indeed. I will post that article by this weekend. I might write about Mike's Mini Meet first though. We will see what happens.

Looking forward to trying out Colonial and Vanuatu on Saturday, Ben. Maybe we'll be able to introduce you to Trajan the same day, if you haven't had the chance to play it yet.

Jesse, can you share with me the information on the Orlando convention in July? I would be very interested in attending.

Thanks! If you aren't subscribed already, I would highly recommend you check out Nate Straight's blog too. He has been writing some very interesting material lately, and it is probably my second favorite blog right now (behind my own. )

Nope, I'm afraid I won't be participating in any of the Fall gaming conventions, Tim. Fortunately, I have a lot of cool friends who have been picking up some of the hot Essen games, so that'll be a very nice substitute! cool

Yeah, of the three you mentioned, Drum Roll is the only one I went back and forth on but I eventually decided since I got Pret-a-Porter to pass on Drum Roll. Now, I'm just waiting for Pret-a-Porter to arrive.
