DotLD: Another Two Board Drafts

More comments, more ideas to try out. When I read Eric's comment on the previous post, the first thing that came into my mind was the blotchy, uneven spot you get when using a bingo marker. I attempted to get that kind of look for the path spots, but I don't think it turned out well. Judge for yourself:

It's certainly better than the hand-drawn circles, but still looks too... sloppy.

For this next attempt, I just used the earlier draft I had done using the circles, but made them semi-transparent. This is what it came out like:

Definitely in the top 3 of what I've done so far. Probably time for a mass print-out of all the versions to have a round or two and see which one annoys me the least.

UPDATE:
As I was finishing this up, John posted a comment on the previous entry. He had a really good suggestion about using a filter like "erode" on the square (or circle) path markers. Looks like another two drafts in the works: one with eroded circles, and one with eroded squares.

I like the transparent circles alot. That might be the way to go.

Minor suggestion. Maybee add a little blood drip sort of effect at the bottom of the red hazard spots. Might not work out. But it might add to the ambience.

I think the bottom one looks really cool. I also liked the ones with the squares from your previous post, but this one's better.

Also, I don't think you need to think that much about how the map is created. I mean, would you even draw dots or something - wouldn't you just draw lines showing the way? In other words: while I think it's commendable that you put so much thought into the story behind the map, I believe that the most important thing is that it looks good and is playable. The bottom one does both.

One small idea, though. Maybe you could stretch the whole dot-grid a bit horizontally. Especially the area 'round the abandoned house could use a bit of air in my opinion where as the right part of the map maybe has a bit too much.
