November 15, 2011

Thanksgiving is almost here. I gotta scramble before I have my family over for dinner on that day. It's a first for me. Along with Thanksgiving, game playing will pick up as the weather is going to start getting crappy and everything moves indoors.

Last night we had five. It was six and a planned race for our TEGCAR league, but because one dropped from last night, we held off. Chris, Kevin and Timm arrived and we had about 35 minutes to wait for Jeff so we broke out Some'R'Set. It had been some time since we last played so it was quite fresh. We split into our normal teams, Timm and Kevin versus Chris and myself. Out of the three hands, Chris and I won two and scored 31 versus Timm and Kevin's one win with 22 points (and nine sandbags - Chris and I had four sandbags). I felt I was playing well last night.

Jeff arrived so we tossed around ideas for a five player game. I mentioned Amun-Re as it had been awhile since we played that (and I used to play online, as well). Jeff and Chris had not played before so we taught them and we were on our way. The game usually takes a playthrough or two to get a feel of the auctions and what you are looking for, but Chris and Jeff did not seem to have an issue on how things were valued. Both did very well for the first game. Chris had the lead after the first half with 19. I had 12 and not sure where Jeff and Kevin were, but Timm had 5 perhaps? The second half is where you make hay, and hay was made. Timm really made a comeback by banking $$ and buying up the big pyramid spots but it wasn't enough. Kevin pulled out the win with 38, both Timm and I had 35, Chris had 34 and Jeff had 29. The experience helped in the second half the game. It was a VERY chatty game (which is good for fun, not good for game length) and the only other game we got in. We did end a little early as I know I was dragging from the Packer game the night before.

Black Friday I'm playing a six player game of Rail Baron. I haven't done that big of a game of it in many years. I probably prefer it with 3-4 players but it will be good. The group that is playing all know how to play so, in theory, it should go by quick. I think I'm gunning for the PA in that one.
