The Sunday Night Round-Up comes a day late this week. Chalk it up to the holiday.

I posted the Thanksgiving Day gaming in a geeklist. You can read about it here:

What did you play on Thanksgiving?

Friday Night the family played a game of Lost Cities: The Board Game.

This was primarily a battle between Melissa and myself. Melissa had a poor 2nd round which allowed me to build a big lead heading into the final round. And it was fortunate that I had a big lead because she came storming back.

Final Scores: Larry 470, Melissa 455, Son 315, Daughter 150. My daughter hasn't picked up on how to play yet. I'm trying to offer her some suggestions but she still discards way too many potentially useful cards.

Sunday afternoon we had the chance to play Ascending Empires for only the 2nd time.

It was a close 3 way battle for most of the game until I got some advanced pink techs that allowed me to score points for ramming and being rammed. This allowed me to pull away and deplete the victory point pool, ending the game. My daughter was unfortunately caught between two warring factions (Melissa and Son) and could never get going. She then made the mistake of attacking me, the only person not taking her planets. That proved unwise.

Final Scores: Larry 35, Son 26, Melissa 25, Daughter 10

Ascending Empires is far from perfect, but it is a fun blend of flicking and 4x space exploration. Turns are super fast and there is a lot of laughter/groans over the flicking. Recommended.

Yes, and who picks them up? Not the son, but you. So she gives you the victory every time. Really, it was a moral victory for me.

As far as Ascending Empires goes, I should get to move my starships where I want them instead of having to flick them. Anyone heard of that house rule? Anyone? I can't help it that I apparently don't have the flicking gene.
