Day Five of our December Challenge sees the family play 10 Days in the USA. For background on the December Challenge, see my December 1st post.

Tonight's pick was courtesy of my daughter. She is a real fan of the game. I rate 10 days in the USA an 8. It is basically a jazzed up Rack-O, with much nicer components and enough bells and whistles to make it more interesting. I also like that it helps the children with geography.

This was our 52nd recorded play on BGG.

Since everyone's rack is hidden from view during the game, it is hard to comment on what the other players were doing. I started in the Northeast, walking from NJ to PA then flying down to LA. I then walked to MS, drove to Ark, then walked to Ok, Co, and Utah for the win.

When I completed my trip, my son was one tile from victory and my daughter two tiles. Melissa, who is usually quite good and the game and probably has the best record among us, had a complete mess. It didn't help that she used a orange plane to fly from an orange state to a red one. (That's not allowed, for those not familiar with the game). I think she was about 6 tiles away from winning.

You should definitely try one of the newer games in the series, like 10 Days in Europe, 10 Days in Asia, or 10 Days in the Americas. Being able to travel by ship (Europe, Americas) is a really nice improvement, and Asia even adds trains which look interesting.

I thought I'd note that this post (as well as peakhope's comment" made me look more closely at this game series - I ended up picking up 10 Days in Asia for Christmas for my son (shh, don't tell!) - his love of maps plus the railroads sealed the deal. Looking forward to giving it a try over Christmas!
