The Battle of Nihriya
The Assyrians and King Tokulti-Ninurta I vs the Hittites and King Tudhaliya IV
Link to session: Confusion at Nihriya, or Tukulti-Ninurta I get's all tangled up
The penultimate chariot battle in Chariots of Fire. Another set piece battle over a flat plain. Two-man chariots with and without runner infantry and three-man chariots.
This was the first one where the chaos of the chit-draw hurt one side bad enough that it was more annoying than enjoyable. However, and this is a big one. I'm pretty sure I could usually setup in ways to mitigate that sort of log-jam better than the illustrated setups.
As the session report notes, I actually played this one through another turn and it switched the results with the Assyrians routing instead of winning.
Most of the rest of the time the added chaos was to the benefit of the experience, and in any game where there's randomness it can sometimes tilt things too far one way or the other.
