Spent most of my days off of work catching up on some anime, so not much to report in on tonight whistle

NF6: Finished creating the rough draft for the next Nightfall expansion and completed the proofreading process with AEG and our playtest teams. AEG has some new staff working with me now, they've been a real treat so far, looking forward to more good work from them. Anywho, we've moved past proofreading, generated all of the initial card frames and sent the initial PDF to the playtesters. Now I just need to get started on playtesting it myself!

I've mentioned this before, but I prefer to have my playtest cards printed at a local office supply (I use Staples) vs printing at home, especially since playtesting for Nightfall practically requires color prints. They also offer very cheap cutting of the cards, which saves me a ton of time.

For any who might be interested, I use a photoshop file to place my images into full page images and then load those large images into a Word document with no margins, then print via CutePDF. The final product only takes me a few minutes to generate and makes for some very high quality prints when done that are easy for the Staples staff to cut for me.

Web Development: Now that I'm caught up on most of my other personal projects I plan to begin seriously working on my Game Night Poll web project. The goal with this is essentially to help groups figure out when they want to meet and what to play when they do get together. I already have a good idea of all the aspects of the site that I want to start with, so really its just getting everything planned out and actually getting the work done.

The beta version that is still in use has revealed some interesting preferences that I want to improve moving into the public version. For instance, the beta auto updates your game library based off of the BGG XML, but sometimes the XML glitches in ways that I haven't yet been able to predict, causing entire game collections to shift oddly and messing with other stats on the site. With the public version I plan to still enable importing your collection from BGG, but it won't be automatic, instead using it to give suggestions of what to add and making it very easy to do so.

Once you're registered you'll be able to create game groups, invites members to your group and import everyone's game collections. The group admin will be able to ban games from being nominated and place weights on votes (1st choice weighted higher then 2nd, etc) as well as due dates and times for both nominations and votes. Everyone will be able to opt in and out of receiving email notifications for poll's progress and all of the information on the polls will be available for the admin to review as well as the rest of the group once the poll has closed.

I'm also planning a "quick pick" page for those cases when there's a spontaneous gaming session and you just need to enter what games are on hand and how many people are there so you can each place some quick votes and get to gaming.

Someone had mentioned Facebook integration previously and while that might be something I could do at a later point, it won't be that way for the initial release.

So, anything else that would be handy to include here? meeple

Your Game Night Poll website is interesting. My first big question is would it be possible for it to access my BGG collection, instead of having to import it into your site? My collection is constantly changing and I update it continually on BGG, so if your site doesn't automatically update as well, that would be an obstacle for me.

Yes and no. The alpha version automatically updates your collection once per day, but BGG's XML is a bit buggy and I'm having a hard time telling when the XML pull was bad. This means that occasionally your entire collection might get wiped or chunks will be missing.

What I plan to do with this version is to have a page that automatically compared your current collection on BGG with what you have listed on my site so that it can make recommendations for additions / subtractions and have it just be a simple checkbox or something to make the changes.

I'll likely still code the option to automatically sync your collection with BGG, but there will be a big red warning label that the function is still buggy.

Sounds good to me. I'll look forward to it.
